Gregg Wallace BANNED from working at the BBC in scathing dismissal letter as sacked presenter is blasted for using autism diagnosis as an excuse for ‘inappropriate behaviour’

The BBC authorities have barred Gregg Wallace from work due to a lack of faith that he can modify behavior that appears to be deeply ingrained.

As a loyal follower, I was informed in writing by the corporation that my services as a BBC presenter would no longer be required, effective immediately. This decision came after a thorough investigation into my conduct during the MasterChef series. At the age of 60, this development has taken me by surprise, but I understand and respect the corporation’s decision.

In their decision-making process, the BBC acknowledged Wallace’s autism diagnosis, yet found that he had difficulty discerning the line between acceptable and unacceptable conduct in a professional setting, even after receiving training in 2019.

The investigation report carried out by Lewis Silkins (commissioned by Masterchef’s producer Banijay in November following the initial accusations) hasn’t been released yet; however, Wallace maintains that he has been exonerated from the gravest claims of inappropriate touching.

However, it’s clear that he was judged for repeatedly making comments perceived as inappropriate, which he personally viewed as ‘banter.’

On Tuesday, Wallace admitted that his humor and choice of words, at certain instances, were not suitable or appropriate. He offered an unconditional apology for this.

In a more conversational tone: Wallace acknowledged on Tuesday that sometimes his jokes and language were inappropriate. He apologized wholeheartedly for this.

The question was considered from the perspective of whether there might be potential for improvement in your behavior through training or coaching sessions.

After examining the results from 2025, I’m not convinced that you can modify behaviors that appear to be ingrained, especially when it comes to making jokes in a professional setting, without first grasping the limits of what is considered acceptable.

Additionally, it’s important to note that several individuals at the BBC have discussed your conduct with you throughout your professional journey. Moreover, you have previously undergone training or coaching sessions back in 2019.

In the letter, it was mentioned that additional considerations were made regarding your health and the recent autism diagnosis you’ve shared in public, in light of the findings from 2025.

I have observed that some environments no longer feel secure for you. Alongside our responsibility to ensure your safety, it’s also crucial for the BBC to consider the safety and duty of care owed towards contributors, the public, and team members with whom you interact, as well as using license fee money effectively in creating a safe workspace for everyone involved.

I’m not convinced that your behavior can be altered enough to create a secure and respectful atmosphere for those collaborating with you on the types of programs the BBC has you presenting.

These types of productions aren’t heavily scripted, instead they require a good deal of improvisation and sound decision-making during interactions with others. Since these judgments can’t always be overseen or controlled, it’s crucial to have individuals who can think on their feet effectively.

Critics, including disability organizations, have criticized Wallace for utilizing his autism diagnosis as a justification for the reported inappropriate actions he’s been accused of.

On Tuesday, he stated that the television executives did not investigate his disability nor shield him from a hazardous setting, which he now recognizes as potentially harmful.

Approximately fifty individuals stepped forward this week, bringing forth new claims about Wallace involving inappropriate sexual remarks, unwanted physical contact, and groping. These accusations, however, are strongly contested by him.

Currently, Wallace has been informed by a prominent charity that his autism diagnosis doesn’t grant him license for unacceptable behavior. Meanwhile, other sources cautioned that his remarks might inadvertently perpetuate negative stereotypes within the autistic community.

Seema Flower, the creator of Blind Ambition, a consulting firm specializing in disabilities, expressed to BBC News that it is completely unacceptable and has no justification to behave improperly towards individuals within our society.

‘Where does it leave us if we use autism as excuse to behave in whatever way we like?’ she asked.

Emily Banks, founder of neurodiversity training body Enna, also condemned Wallace.

‘Just to make things clear, having autism doesn’t exempt someone from accountability for misbehavior. It doesn’t change the fact that they can distinguish between right and wrong.’

Dan Harris, the head of Neurodiversity in Business and an individual on the autism spectrum, noted that there may be instances where he might overlook social signals. However, it’s important to clarify that having autism does not equate to being excused for unacceptable behavior.

‘Comments like this stigmatise us and add an unfortunate negative focus on our community.’

On Wednesday, it was reported that Wallace’s friends attributed some of his inappropriate behavior to his autism. They claimed that his autistic sensitivity to labels and tight garments might have made him unable to wear underwear.

According to a report by The Times, his autism causes him to have unusual limitations with filtering information and maintaining personal space.

According to a representative from BBC, it was Banijay UK who engaged the law firm Lewis Silkin to conduct an examination into accusations made against Gregg Wallace.

‘We are not going to comment until the investigation is complete and the findings are published.’

Regarding the recent accusations, a representative for Gregg stated: ‘Gregg is fully participating in the current Banijay UK investigation and, as mentioned before, firmly denies any involvement in behavior that could be considered sexually harassing.’
