As a seasoned viewer of MasterChef, I must admit that the recent developments surrounding Gregg Wallace have left me quite disheartened. Having watched him and John Torode for years, their camaraderie and culinary wisdom have always been a highlight of the show. It’s saddening to see such a public figure embroiled in allegations that tarnish his reputation.

A video clip featuring Rod Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, along with celebrity chef Gregg Wallace from Celebrity Catchphrase, has resurfaced, suggesting that Gregg may have been looking at Penny’s chest area.

In 2019, the program premiered, which was two years prior to when the model, aged 53, competed on Celebrity MasterChef. During her appearance, she was deeply moved by the host’s actions.

In this particular show, Stephen Mulhern acts as the host, where famous personalities attempt to solve a set of tricky questions intended to confuse them.

In a 2019 episode, Penny was joined by Greg (who is 60), as well as writer and comedian Richard Osmond.

In the video, Stephen queries Penny slightly about her personal details, such as the charity she intends to support if successful.

Meanwhile, as Penny excitedly shares her journey from modeling to photography, it seems like her co-star Gregg is fixedly gazing at her chest while she speaks.

On a different occasion, the host of Eat Well For Less makes facial expressions suggesting annoyance and seems uninterested in Penny’s conversation.

This is not the first time that there has been tension between Penny and Gregg.

2021 saw Penny exit Celebrity MasterChef with tears streaming down her face, following Gregg’s stern rebuke for the prolonged delay in serving her dishes, and his subsequent decision not to partake in any of her culinary offerings.

In the midst of the pandemonium in the kitchen while she was on the program, Gregg advised Penny, “Friend, we simply cannot afford to be 10 minutes behind,” expressing concern about her tardiness as a significant issue.

“When you discover that someone’s actions often stem more from their personal struggles rather than any fault of yours, you develop a sense of understanding and compassion.

On Thursday, Gregg stepped down from his position on the BBC One cooking program as officials examine allegations of unsuitable conduct.

After the announcement, Penny’s husband, legendary rocker Sir Rod Stewart, posted an angry response about her on Instagram.

The vocalist publicly labeled him as a “rude, overweight, and bald man” due to his behavior of embarrassing his wife Penny in the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen three years prior.

Rod posted for his million followers that Gordon Ramsay (apparently misspelled as ‘Greg’ in the original) was let go from MasterChef.

I’m glad you’re gone, Wallace. It seems you embarrassed my wife during her appearance on the show, yet they edited out that part for you, didn’t they? [In a more polite tone] It appears there was an incident where your actions caused discomfort to my wife during the show, and it seems that segment was removed from the final edit for you.

‘You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart’

TopMob have contacted the BBC for a comment.

Presently, Gregg is under investigation by BBC executives due to a set of accusations that have been brought forth regarding his past actions. These accusations claim that he engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct as a previous greengrocer.

According to reports, it is alleged that the TV chef entered the MasterChef set seemingly without any clothes on except for a sock covering his lower body, followed by an unusual dance, which appeared quite amusing.

I’ve been recently implicated in an allegation involving a reenactment of a suggestive act toward a member of the show’s production team who was kneeling down to tidy up my pants during filming, as per some graphic and currently unverified claims.

According to The Daily Telegraph’s account, they’ve talked to someone who asserts they witnessed those supposed events. Additionally, the report states that this witness described Gregg as being quite physically affectionate.

The former grocery store owner, now TV host, has been criticized for inappropriate sexual humor. Among other things, he made crude jokes about sex, even referring to an “aunt” in a humorous manner during a contestant’s cooking demonstration on the program.

Additionally, it has been alleged that Gregg occasionally displayed inappropriate behavior by removing his shirt in the presence of a female colleague, claiming he was giving her a fashion exhibition. Furthermore, there have been reports of him discussing his personal intimate relationships with other individuals.

At one point, it’s said that he made a comment to a junior female coworker, implying that he wasn’t wearing underwear beneath his jeans.

And Penny is not the only one to have raised issues with the presenter.

13 individuals, which include Kirsty Wark, have expressed concerns regarding his behavior during their professional interactions spanning 17 years and encompassing five different programs, ranging from 2005 to 2022, as reported by the BBC.

Kirsty asserted that on two separate instances during the 2011 filming of Celebrity MasterChef, Gregg made humorous anecdotes and jokes with sexual undertones in the presence of contestants and crew. She stated emphatically that such humor was entirely out of place.

On two specific instances, he employed suggestive speech in mixed company, yet there seemed to be no response or interaction from others. It was as if the conversation was entirely one-sided. However, it appeared that many felt uneasy, and this situation was certainly unexpected for me.

On Thursday, Scottish broadcaster Aasmah Mir posted a throwback photo from the 2017 Celebrity MasterChef competition along with the mysterious comment: “Always save your proofs.” As of now, it’s unclear whether she has also expressed any grievances.

According to the BBC, Gregg chose to leave MasterChef yesterday following the delivery of a letter to his representative on Tuesday. The letter detailed accusations from 13 individuals and provided an opportunity for him to respond.

They say he was warned after a complaint was raised in 2018, but new historical claims emerged over the summer of 2024.

According to Banijay UK, Gregg is dedicated to working together closely every step of the way.

Gregg will appear on BBC One every Thursday evening, as scheduled, since MasterChef: The Professionals, a pre-recorded show, will air as planned through December. Moreover, the MasterChef Christmas specials are set to be aired as well.

Today, the chef hasn’t made any comments yet – however, when the announcement was made this afternoon, he indeed posted his prawn taco recipe with pineapple salsa on Instagram.

However, in October, Gregg firmly disputed allegations of inappropriate sexual remarks towards women. He emphasized that he would never make advances towards a woman, stating, “I wouldn’t flirt with or hit on another woman,” and clarifying, “I didn’t say anything sexual.

BBC News reportedly learned about additional claims, such as the presenter discussing personal aspects of his love life, exposing himself to a female coworker while suggesting a fashion show, and informing a junior female coworker that he wasn’t wearing underwear beneath his jeans.

Banijay has not revealed the nature of the allegations.

This week, Banijay UK acknowledged receiving personal complaints about historical claims of misbehavior involving presenter Gregg Wallace during filming for one of their shows, as reported to the PA news agency.

Given that these complainants haven’t personally voiced their concerns to our program producers or the parent company Banijay UK, we believe it’s essential to initiate an immediate, unbiased investigation by bringing in an external party to thoroughly examine the matter.

During the ongoing review, Gregg Wallace will temporarily step back from his position on MasterChef. He assures full cooperation throughout the entire process.

At Banijay UK, the wellbeing of our staff is always top-priority. We make it a point to communicate our standards of conduct explicitly to everyone involved in our productions, be they cast or crew members. On every project, we ensure that several avenues for expressing concerns are openly publicized on set, including options for confidential reporting.

Although these claims pertain to the past, any instances that come to our notice where our standards aren’t upheld, are carefully examined and dealt with in a suitable manner.

If you have any thoughts, questions, or worries, feel free to reach out to us at speakup@banijayuk.com in a private setting.

The BBC has said it takes any issues that are raised with it ‘seriously’.
