Greg Rutherford’s daughter Daphne, 3, is rushed to hospital after falling ill with croup as his fiancée Susie Verrill shares health update
As a seasoned spectator of Dancing On Ice, I have to admit that this year’s competition has been a rollercoaster of emotions. The performances, the camaraderie, and the occasional spills – it all adds up to an unforgettable viewing experience. But among the contestants, there was one athlete whose journey truly stood out – Greg Jamieson.
On a Monday, Greg Rutherford’s daughter, Daphne, had to be taken to the hospital due to falling sick with croup. His partner, Susie Verrill, shared this information through Instagram posts.
Susie disclosed that she had taken Daphne to the doctor because she was having trouble breathing, and added that she’s making a good recovery now, following treatment with steroids.
37-year-old athlete (Olympian) is at the moment sailing through a tour of Greece and Turkey on a cruise ship. Additionally, he has two boys, aged 9 (Milo) and 6 (Rex), who are his children with Susie.
From her hospital bed, Susie frequently shared heartwarming photos showing her embracing Daphne as she took a break.
She wrote: ‘So glad I decided to bring her to hospital because she was NOT good.’
‘What a difference some steroids make’, she added.
Kids experiencing croup may exhibit a unique, bark-like cough and produce a rough noise, called stridor, during their inhalation process.
They might experience a rough, strained voice and struggle with normal breathing due to an obstructed windpipe.
Susie confessed her remorse for not taking Daphne to the hospital earlier, acknowledging that she and Greg are quite knowledgeable when it comes to handling croup, a frequent respiratory issue among little kids.
She said: ‘Thanks for all your kind messages, I’ve got huge guilt for not taking her in sooner.
We’ve had plenty of encounters dealing with croup, and with the exception of one instance involving Milo, it has usually resolved on its own by providing cool air, fluids, and maintaining a sense of calmness.
This morning, when I brought her in, they noticed her breathing and quickly led us to administer steroids due to her enlarged nostrils and indications of a tight throat.
‘Because she’d been so calm and chatty with me I didn’t really panic too much initially.’
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself deeply empathizing with the retired athlete, whose fortune seems to have taken an unfortunate turn ever since gracing the stage of ITV’s Dancing On Ice. An unexpected incident during his skating performance led to a tear in his stomach, necessitating immediate surgery. Later on, he was diagnosed with whooping cough, adding yet another challenge to his journey.
His recent string of misfortunes followed an extremely difficult and traumatic experience, as a skylight in his house shattered just a few days ago.
The Olympian revealed the aftermath of the alarming event, displaying the hazardous fragments of broken glass scattered throughout his lounge area.
He admitted that he was still ‘shaking’ after the window suddenly shattered, only moments after his children had been sat under it and voiced his complete shock and relief that no one had been hurt.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share this heartwarming tale of love and loss. My beloved fiancée Susie unveiled a deeply poignant truth: our cherished dog Gus was battling terminal cancer. In the face of this grim reality, we chose to seize every precious moment, reveling in the time left with our dear companion, making each moment count before his final goodbye.
Earlier, Greg had shared that they were experiencing a difficult period, due to the distressing incident during Dancing On Ice.
He was forced to pull out of the ITV show final after he sustained an injury during rehearsals, later revealing he had torn his abs.
Following some tough weeks as a family due to the injury, he chose to share on his Instagram Stories: ‘Currently, we’re facing some challenging times as a family, but I’m finding solace in cooking. Thank you for your thoughtful messages of support.’
Ever since Greg unveiled that gruesome scar and spoke of the mind-boggling swelling post his abdominal surgery, I find myself utterly captivated, like a moth to a flame.
Sharing several candid snaps, he wrote: ‘A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better.
As an ardent admirer putting this into my own words, I must say that miraculous recovery seems to be mine lately. The sensation of pain is barely a whisper compared to before, and the wound that once plagued me has now mended itself completely. Take a gander at Picture 2; it illustrates the extraordinary swelling that initially took hold.
As an enthusiastic aficionado, I’m finding it challenging to engage my abs correctly yet, but that day is fast approaching. Unfortunately, I’ve added quite a bit of weight post-op, and as soon as I’m ready, I’ll be hitting the gym to sculpt myself back into shape… perhaps even strapping on my skates again!
Greg disclosed the nature of his severe Dancing On Ice wound just before going to the hospital for an operation.
In rehearsals, the athlete said it felt like he had undergone a Caesarean section while attempting to skate between the legs of professional Colin Grafton.
He told fans: ‘Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking “what happened?”
Over the past while, I’ve found myself quite occupied, and, as you may have noticed, I’m still in the process of healing up prior to my surgery due to an earlier injury. Consequently, I haven’t had a chance to discuss it yet.
Essentially, in a nutshell, I accidentally did a somersault between Colin’s legs, which resulted in me tearing several abdominal muscles and herniating as well. In other words, I essentially performed an unintentional C-section on myself.
Indeed, it was extremely uncomfortable and quite distressing. Today, surgery is necessary for my recovery, and afterward, I should start feeling much better. In simpler terms, it was very painful and quite unpleasant.
The contest was about to pit the Olympian against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts, and Miles Nazaire, with the prize at stake.
In the finale, Ryan glided his way to triumph and shared the title of “Dancing on Ice 2024 champion” with professional partner Amani Fancy in a lively performance.
