Greg Girad’s Ode to Old Hong Kong Lights Up M+ Museum Facade

Greg Girard’s Hong Kong collection returns in the new display HK:PM, which is now being shown on the M+ Museum’s 7,000-square-meter facade. The Canadian photographer has been chosen to illuminate Victoria Harbour with a heartfelt homage to Hong Kong’s history.

HK:PM brings to life a series of analogue photos taken by the artist during his Hong Kong stint from the 1970s to the 1990s. These images depict the bustling streets of Central, the once-standing Kowloon Walled City and vibrant nightclub scenes bathed in neon lights.

The artist stated that this commission provides them with a rare chance to re-examine these photos, turning snippets of Hong Kong’s recent history into a series of moving images.

Eventually, Girard’s works are being reintroduced into their original environment. The commission is revitalizing old Hong Kong while honoring its past, present, and the perpetual transition in between. HK:PM can be seen on the M+ facade every night until September 28th.
