With the console release of GreedFall: The Dying World on March 12th approaching, technical director Wilfried Mallet has shared details about how the game will perform on different systems. In an interview with GamingBolt, Mallet explained that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will offer two modes: “Performance” and “Quality.” The Performance mode will prioritize a smooth frame rate of 60 frames per second, while the Quality mode will focus on visual fidelity, aiming for 30 FPS.
Mallet explained that the Xbox Series S version of GreedFall: The Dying World received extra attention from the developers at Spiders because of the console’s less powerful hardware. They were able to leverage their experience creating Steelrising for the same platform to optimize the game.
Optimizing a game for different platforms is always challenging, and the Xbox Series S required particular focus,” said Mallet. “However, because we’d already worked on the console during the development of Steelrising, we were prepared and knew exactly what changes were needed to deliver a great experience for players.
From a technical standpoint, Mallet explained that Spiders successfully utilized the storage capabilities of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This was made possible by the hardware-based decompression technology available on both consoles. The Xbox versions also benefited from the Velocity architecture, which enabled faster and more efficient data streaming, maintaining the game’s high visual quality and detailed textures.
Our technical director explained that we really utilized the powerful storage capabilities of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Specifically, we benefited from the PS5’s fast SSD – including its Kraken hardware decompression – and the Xbox Velocity Architecture. This let us load more detailed and diverse textures without making the game take longer to load.
Regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 version, the studio confirmed they don’t currently plan to port the game, though it is technically feasible. Right now, they’re focused on releasing the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
I was so excited to see the new trailer for GreedFall: The Dying World last month! What really struck me wasn’t how ‘dying’ the world was, but actually how beautiful it is. The trailer took me on a tour of Gacane, showing off incredible cities like Teer Fradree and the huge metropolis of Peren, as well as smaller places like the coastal town of Thynea and the fishing village of Uxantis. We even got glimpses of ancient ruins near Uxantis and the massive city of Olima. While it doesn’t seem like the game is all about conflict, I did spot some cool creatures and a lot of everyday people just going about their lives, which was really neat to see.
As you wait for the RPG’s launch, here are 15 things you ought to know before you hop in.
Nacon, the publisher of the game GreedFall, has recently filed for bankruptcy protection. The company announced last month that it needed to quickly reorganize its finances and is now asking a court to help it explore options for staying in business.
