As a long-time admirer of British culinary talents and a dedicated viewer of The Great British Bake Off, I must say that this year’s drama has reached new heights. From Jeff’s unfortunate departure due to illness to the unexpected collapses of Illiyin and Dylan, it seems like the kitchen gods have been particularly unforgiving this season.

As I stood amidst the bustling tent on Tuesday evening, my heart swelled with anticipation as the bakers embarked on their third week’s challenge – crafting bread. The air was thick with emotion and the scent of fresh dough, a testament to the passion and dedication these talented individuals bring to their craft.

In this particularly emotional and intense season of The Great British Bake Off, John found himself overwhelmed and had to step outside the tent to regain his composure.

37-year-old Support Manager at the NHS Directorate became emotional when his bagels unexpectedly burnt during preparation, causing him to miss out on the competition.

As a devoted follower of the art of baking, I was assigned the challenge of creating a cornucopia of bread, brimming with doughy delights. However, during the process, I found myself confronted by an issue: my bagels weren’t rising to the surface of the boiling water as they had in previous trials.

Initially, it seemed like John was jokingly telling the cameras that the bagels weren’t turning out right. However, later on, he struggled to hold back his tears, finding solace in Alison Hammond’s comfort.

As the host gave John a hug, he sniffed: ‘I don’t want to cry over bagels,’ before he asked: ‘Can I just have a minute?’

Stepping outside the tent for some reflection, the other bakers watched with worry as the tension from the contest intensified further.

Regrettably, the soft treat turned out to be his undoing since he offered lackluster, flattened bagels resembling pancakes instead.

He jokily told Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith: ‘I wouldn’t even bother, use it as a frisbee,’ as Paul agreed: ‘You can’t eat that,’ and Prue offered a sympathetic: ‘Shame about the bagels’.

In the tent, Dylan’s exceptional week earned him the title of Star Baker, which unfortunately marked the end of the competition for John.

Talking to cameras while crying once again he added: ‘It’s fine it was expected. Just a bad week this week.

‘The tears are tears of pride’

Elsewhere in the episode things got off to a dramatic start as host Noel Fielding took a savage swipe at none other than Gordon Ramsay.

The comedian, 50, compared the renowned British chef, 57, to an omelette after claiming ‘all chefs are ugly’.

During the start of Bread Week, contestant Dylan disclosed to Noel that he harbored a dream of becoming a professional chef.

In an attempt to steer him away from a culinary career, Noel said instead: “Perhaps you should reconsider being a chef, as it might not suit your good looks.

He then joked: ‘Have you seen Gordon Ramsay, he looks like an omelette with eyes’.

Although Gordon has a reputation for having a fiery temper in the kitchen, Noel warned, ‘He’ll attack me if you do that.’

Over the past week, an extraordinary turn of events unfolded at the baking competition. Lecturer Jeff had to step down because of his ill health prior to two participants collapsing during the grand finale challenge.

After enduring an unfortunate health setback during the cake week, I reluctantly found myself unable to continue my journey in the competition due to my condition not responding favorably to treatment.

Alison asked: ‘Are you alright Jeff?’ before he replied: ‘I’ve had enough. I’m done.’

‘You tried man, you tried,’ Alison said as she comforted the disappointed baker.

During the completion of the showstopper challenge, midwife Illiyin unexpectedly fainted, causing more confusion. Medical professionals then had to reposition her in a way that ensures her safety and helps her recover.

As an overly enthusiastic fan, I found myself on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the showstopper creations by the talented bakers. However, just as time ran out and the moment arrived for them to present their masterpieces, a faint whisper echoed through the kitchen, ‘I’m feeling a bit light-headed.’

As the contestants were being evaluated during the climax, Paul exclaimed in surprise: “What on earth is happening?

‘Are you all right?’ Prue gasped, as Illiyin collapsed to the floor, with medics rushing over.

Moments afterward, the bakers were taken aback when they heard a loud thump and saw temporary retail worker Dylan had toppled from his stool and landed on the ground.

Worried that Dylan might have passed out too, the host first made sure he was alright, and then Dylan explained that he had lost his balance while attempting to grab his water bottle from the chair.
