Grammy winner Kim Petras has requested to be dropped from her music label.
The singer, known as The Unholy, publicly announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday that she’s requested to be released from her recording contract with Republic Records.
The singer, who became famous worldwide after collaborating with Sam Smith on their 2022 hit song ‘Unholy’ – which won a Grammy Award – said she wasn’t getting enough support for her music.
Petras claims her record label is delaying the release of her album, Detour, and hasn’t paid her collaborators yet.
The German-born star expressed frustration with a lack of control over her professional path and personal life, and announced she plans to finance her career independently from now on.
She strongly criticized the music industry, accusing record labels of prioritizing fleeting TikTok trends over genuine talent and engaging in what she called a manipulative attempt to appeal to audiences with a nostalgic ’80s aesthetic and queer representation.
Daily Mail has reached out to Republic Records and Petras for comment.

She explained that her album has been finished for half a year, but her record label won’t tell her when it will be released and hasn’t paid the people who helped create it.
The artist expressed frustration that despite winning a Grammy two years ago, their music isn’t getting support from record labels. They feel labels are only interested in music that fits current trends like TikTok sounds or nostalgic 80s revivals, and aren’t interested in supporting anything else.
Kim Petras explained she’s frustrated with a lack of creative control over her music and career path. Because she wants to remain independent and fund her own work, she has officially asked Republic Records to release her from her contract.
I actually filmed a music video for my upcoming single about two months ago, and I funded it myself. It’s honestly the best music video I’ve ever made – we did nine different outfits, six set designs, and I went through thirteen pairs of shoes during the shoot! Still haven’t gotten a release date for the song though.
Petras thanked her fans, saying they’ve been patient and that she loves them.
‘I’m dropping Detour regardless,’ she added, referring to her reported third studio album.
Her second album, Problématique, was released in 2023.
Petras signed with Republic Records in 2021, starting out with her single ‘Future Starts Now.’
The star released her first single, ‘I Don’t Want It At All’, in 2017.

In February 2023, she won a Grammy for her work on the song “Unholy,” becoming the first transgender woman to ever win the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Last November, Petras shared that she had injured her vocal cords while on her 2023–2024 Feed the Beast tour.
Kim Petras explained to People that she only started taking vocal lessons after a tour left her with a damaged voice. She realized she needed proper technique when she unexpectedly lost her voice and didn’t know how to fix it.
‘So I really had to wreck my vocal cords before I learned how to properly use my instrument.’
Despite the injury, she was lucky to avoid surgery. She explained, ‘I managed to get through it, but I had to stay completely silent for two weeks to let my voice recover.’
But her vocal-cord confession arrived amid continued buzz over her dramatic weight loss.
In July, a German pop singer surprised many on social media by posting a photo of herself in a revealing outfit, showcasing a noticeably thinner physique.
People quickly reacted online, and opinions were divided. One person commented, ‘Great body!’ while another noted, ‘It looks like her thong straps are slipping.’
Speculation has swirled for more than a year that Petras may be using Ozempic or a similar drug.
While she hasn’t publicly acknowledged it, Dr. Adam Rubinstein previously suggested to the Daily Mail that Kim Kardashian’s noticeable weight loss likely occurred over more than a year and may have been aided by a drug like Ozempic.

The performer, originally from Cologne, first became well-known in 2006 at the age of 13 when they talked about their gender transition on the TV show Stern.
Kim, who was assigned male at birth as Tim, identified as a girl from a very young age, starting at two years old. She began medical hormone therapy as part of her transition at age twelve, and successfully advocated for gender reassignment surgery with her doctors.
By the time she was fourteen, she was legally recognized as a girl. She then appeared in a documentary and on a talk show, advocating for the right to begin gender reassignment surgery at sixteen – two years before the legal age of eighteen in Germany.
At age 16, Kim underwent gender reassignment surgery, making her the youngest person to do so at the time. Her appearances on television as a teenager led to media labeling her as ‘the world’s youngest transsexual.’
