Gracie Abrams Slams Fan’s Bizarre Petition to Replace Her Tour Opener

Gracie Abrams responded to a fan’s appeal, asking for a swap in openers with Dora Jar on her forthcoming tour.

25-year-old Abrams countered the criticism from a self-proclaimed fan who criticized the slow tempo of his songs and requested a high-energy opening act. Instead, he supported the choice to have Jar, the fellow singer, join him on tour.

Originally, the author of the now-removed petition expressed confusion when it was revealed that Abrams had chosen Jar, aged 28, to open for her on her The Secret of Us tour, a decision that left several fans puzzled and bewildered.

On Saturday, Abrams expressed her disapproval under a Stereogum post regarding the petition, labeling it as both “unusual” and “not cool,” while simultaneously voicing her backing for Jar.

In response to the playful jibe, the artist known for the Scab Song, who has opened for Billie Eilish and The 1975 during their arena tours, kept it cordial and added a touch of humor to his response.

Responding to the recent petition, Abrams, who has faced speculation about her relationship status with actor Paul Mescal over the past week, posted: ‘Merely learning about this utterly preposterous situation.’

In a firm show of support for her friend, the That’s So True singer expressed her strong disagreement, stating that what had occurred was incredibly strange, unbelievable, and far from being cool or reasonable.

I’ve never witnessed such overwhelming excitement from everyone, and I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to perform alongside this incredibly skilled individual. A self-proclaimed fan expressed dissatisfaction with Jar’s slower tunes, stating that they might fail to create the desired atmosphere and energize the audience for an unforgettable live performance.

Over the weekend, Jar also shared her reaction to seeing the petition and responded politely.

‘Don’t worry this doesn’t bum me out! I’m hear [sic] to perform for all the music loving open hearted fans,’ she wrote in a tweet in response to a fan’s message on Friday. 

In a post on X, which was once known as Twitter, she expressed, ‘Anyone who doesn’t want to join can purchase merchandise during my performance, but they could also just enjoy the show instead (wink-wink;)). A multitude of fans have been incredibly kind and eager.’

Later on, she playfully remarked, “I put my name on that petition, but I’ve also been practicing these tunes, just in case I keep the opening spot!

Jar additionally expressed gratitude towards the supporters from Abrams’ fan base, for their outpouring kindness.

Dislike may be part of the profession, but what I’m experiencing now – an overwhelming display of affection from fans who are just getting to know me – is actually the greatest outpouring of love I’ve encountered so far,” she enthused.

‘Gracie has beautiful open hearted fans and I am so excited for this.’ 

Last week, Jar revealed that she would be joining Abrams on the European leg of her upcoming tour.

The next phase of their tour commences in Madrid, Spain on February 8, and concludes in Glasgow, Scotland on March 12.
