Gothic 1 Remake Release Date Set for June

I’m so excited! THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive just announced that Gothic 1 Remake is coming this summer! Get ready to jump back into the gritty, atmospheric world of the Valley of the Mines – I’ve been waiting for this for ages!

The remake of the classic RPG Gothic 1 is coming out on June 5th for PC and the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Currently, there are no plans to release it on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Okay, so it looks like Alkimia and THQ are going to be a little later than the 2025 release date they talked about last year. But honestly, as a fan, I’m just relieved to finally have a confirmed release date after waiting for so long! It’s good to know it’s actually happening.

The remake of Gothic was first revealed in 2019, accompanied by a short teaser released by publisher THQ Nordic to see if there was enough interest to fully develop the game.

People quickly became interested, and development started quickly with Alkimia Interactive – a studio owned by THQ Nordic – taking the lead.

The original creators of Gothic, Piranha Bytes, aren’t working on this new project. In fact, the studio closed down in mid-2024 after releasing their last role-playing game, Elex 2, in 2022 and is currently not developing any games.

Piranha Bytes is still involved with the Gothic series. The first Gothic game was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2023, and Gothic 2 followed with its own Switch version later in the same year.

The Gothic 1 Remake isn’t a simple, exact copy of the original game. It’s more of a complete re-envisioning, similar to how Final Fantasy VII was remade, rather than a more faithful update like the Super Mario RPG remake.

When Gothic 1 Remake launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 5th, you’ll get to experience the updated version of the classic game for yourself. Keep an eye out for more updates!
