Kelly Rutherford’s brother, Anthony Deane, recently suffered severe injuries in a ski accident. He says the accident happened earlier this month and has left him with life-altering damage.
The younger brother of the Gossip Girl star, age 52, shared a frightening account on Instagram of a crash he experienced in St. Moritz, Switzerland. He explained he was in intensive care for almost two weeks and needed three surgeries to fix severe injuries, including nine broken ribs, a shattered collarbone, and a punctured lung.
Givanni shared a heartfelt post about Rutherford, 57, including photos from their recent vacation. The post concluded with a poignant image of Rutherford’s hand connected to an IV drip while in the hospital.
I’m sharing something personal for my sister Kelly. I usually don’t post stuff like this, but I’m feeling emotional and want to be open. On January 2nd, I had a ski accident and ended up with 9 broken ribs (11 fractures in total), a broken collarbone that needed a titanium plate and 9 screws to fix, and a punctured lung with internal bleeding. It was a really bad crash.
After nearly two weeks in the ICU and three surgeries, Kell was constantly by my side, helping me through incredibly difficult moments. It took immense strength for her to be there, especially working on the front lines, and I’m so grateful to have her as my sister and best friend – in this life and hopefully the next. I love her more than words can say.
As a lifestyle expert, I often find fascinating connections between people, and this is a great example! The incredibly talented furniture designer, based right here in Los Angeles, actually shares a mom – Ann Edwards – with Rutherford. It’s amazing how family ties can connect people in unexpected ways, isn’t it?

Ann raised her children in a home that, as Givanni Deane has noted, was unconventional but full of love.
In 2015, he told Vanity Fair that Rutherford helped raise him and that she is his ‘guardian angel.’
Growing up, Rutherford playfully called herself his ‘junior mom.’ More recently, the two worked together to create a jewelry collection for The TwentyFour Six.
In his candid post this week, Givanni Deane admitted he wasn’t proud of how the crash happened.
I get it, the first thing everyone wants to know is if I crashed into a tree, but actually, it was much less dramatic. I was just really hungry and trying to quickly meet friends at a restaurant when I slid into an icy ditch – not exactly a graceful situation.
‘Been skiing since I was a kid and never had an accident…so decided to make this one count.’
He described the accident as a major life change and announced he’s using it as motivation to finally quit smoking after many years.
He explained that he sees life as a collection of repeating cycles, and this situation, despite potentially requiring a long recovery, is a welcome change of pace that he’s looking forward to.

It might sound strange, but I’ve enjoyed smoking since I was a teenager. However, a recent health scare has motivated me to quit, and it’s amazing how easily it’s been so far! So, if I ask you for a cigarette, please don’t give me one – I’m trying to stay on track.
I’m just teasing – I won’t actually ask, but if you happen to have a spare moment, I’d appreciate it. It’s the least you could do!
Kelly Rutherford, who played Blake Lively’s mother, Lily van der Woodsen, on Gossip Girl, left a sweet comment – ‘I love you so much ♥️’ – on a post, and Givanni Deane responded with ‘love you more!!!’
Givanni started his professional life as a fashion stylist, working with magazines like Cosmopolitan and InStyle. He built a network of celebrity and industry clients, and then successfully shifted his career to focus on interior design.
He went on to work with leading Los Angeles developer Darryl Wilson and at the renowned Twentieth Art and Design Showroom, both of which helped him develop his unique style.

His injuries will probably make it difficult for him to do hands-on design work while he recovers, but he seems to be staying optimistic.
In recent years, Rutherford has dealt with personal challenges, notably a six-year legal battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Giersch, over custody of their two children, Hermés and Helena.
She has remained close to her family throughout various challenges.
Photos shared before the accident clearly showed how close the siblings were, with both of them smiling happily while skiing in the Swiss Alps.
People quickly filled the comments section with messages of support and concern. One person wrote, ‘Wishing you a speedy and smooth recovery!’ while another simply expressed how much they had missed him, saying, ‘ANTHONY!!! Thank goodness. I miss you so much.’
