Gordon Ramsay reveals the ‘scary’ moment he passed out while cradling son Oscar just moments after his birth and admits ‘my wife didn’t want me in there’

Gordon Ramsay has shared an emotional account of when he passed out during the delivery room as his son Oscar was born.

As a devoted follower, I find it fascinating to recount that the celebrated chef, at 58 years old, wasn’t present for the arrivals of his first four children – Megan, 26, the twins Jack and Holly, 25, and Tilly, 23. This was due to Tana, his wife, ensuring he remained absent from the delivery room during those significant moments.

She didn’t want him to see her in labour or experience the raw reality of childbirth firsthand.

In 2019, it was Gordon who stood with her during the birth of their son Oscar (now six), who was delivered through a C-section.

In an unexpected twist, a moment that should have been filled with pure bliss – as the melodious tunes of Ed Sheeran serenaded us – turned into a whirlwind scenario when the proud father, in my arms, succumbed to faintness, cradling his freshly-arrived little one.

On the Smartless podcast, Gordon clarified that his wife wasn’t keen on him being present.

Initially, she expressed, “I prefer my mom and yours not to be present, as I don’t want to be seen in this condition, behind that screen, please leave.” I understood that this was her choice, and I had to honor it.

Upon reaching the theater for our fifth child’s birth, I unexpectedly fainted, appearing quite weak. In my arms was Oscar, and I lost consciousness momentarily.

‘He was coming through the sun roof so there was a lot of commotion going on.

They asked, “What would you like to hear?” To which I replied, “Could you play some Ed Sheeran?” So they did, turning up the volume, I heard various noises, and then, all of a sudden, two more doctors entered the room, I looked down and saw blood covering the floor.

They extracted him and promptly approached me. In response, I exclaimed, “Whoa, whoa, hold on!” I found myself falling back as if I were a feeble individual.

Gordon and his wife Tana went on to welcome their sixth child in November 2023.

In that moment, he shared a touching picture: a snapshot of him planting a kiss on his newborn’s head while Tana tenderly held him close to her.

On Instagram, Gordon expressed that the baby’s arrival served as a “wonderful surprise birthday gift” since his own birthday falls on November 8th.

He wrote: ‘What an incredible birthday present! Meet Jesse James Ramsay, weighing in at 7lbs 10oz! Another lovable addition to the Ramsay family! Now we have three boys and three girls. That’s a wrap!’

Tana also shared her own post, saying the Ramsay family had been ‘blessed’ with their new arrival.

She wrote: ‘These past nine months have been tense, but we’ve persevered and now we’re overjoyed to welcome our new addition. The Ramsay family is now fully complete. We adore you, Jesse James Ramsay ❤️.’

The couple, who married in 1996, kept Tana’s latest pregnancy a secret.

Previously in September, Gordon openly acknowledged that Tanahyia had been encouraging him to have a sixth child, yet he expressed his disapproval towards the notion.

In conversation with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast, Gordon shared a small revelation: “Tana has expressed a desire for another addition to our family.

However, he confessed his hesitance towards having another child, explaining that their family would require not just one but two vehicles due to the increased number of people, and he would be among the elderlies in the children’s school.

It feels reminiscent of my school days when I find myself traveling on two buses to dine out. Moreover, it seems I’ll be the elder among my peers, often being asked, “Who’s your grandfather?” in this new setting.

As for Sports Day, the egg-and-spoon race is on the schedule. But I’m not up for it this time around. I’d appreciate another event instead.

Or,

Sports Day includes an egg and spoon race. However, I’m opting out of it this year. Could we do something else instead?

Additionally, Gordon mentioned that his youngest son, Oscar, seems to be mirroring his actions as they both shared a similar issue – dissatisfaction with the school food – during their initial days at school.

As a die-hard fan, let me share this: I refused to don my jacket today. I exclaimed, “Dad, it’s unbearably scratchy!” And in regards to the meal, I couldn’t hide my dissatisfaction, muttering, “This food is disappointing.

I told him, ‘Bring Your Own’ for lunch. He asked what that meant, so I said, ‘Bring your own food,’ meaning he should pack his lunch himself. And indeed, he has his own lunchbox filled with finger sandwiches.

Regardless of his initial reluctance, Gordon acknowledged that his fathering abilities have progressively strengthened as he has more children.

He pointed out: ‘You improved significantly on your initial mistakes. His growth is astonishingly rapid, almost as if he’s an adult disguised as a four-year-old, given he has four older siblings who hold influence over him.’

During the coronavirus pandemic, I found myself in agreement with Gordon, who confided that Tana had expressed a strong desire to grow our family. She saw the lockdown period as an opportune moment for us to begin trying.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, he mentioned that just two hours prior, our prime minister declared a lockdown lasting until the 15th of February.

So, Tana shared some exciting news. You’re still chatting with Jimmy past your bedtime. Mark your calendar, tomorrow night will make it our sixth outing!
