Good Morning Britain fans sink claws into ‘gross and pathetic’ toilet debate – raging ‘how did this show win an award?!’
As a seasoned broadcaster myself, I have to say that I found the situation on Good Morning Britain quite unusual. Having interviewed numerous politicians and public figures over the years, I understand the delicate balance between professionalism and personal relationships. However, inviting a presenter to interview his own wife in such a sensitive context as the current nationwide riots seems to me to be a step too far.
Good Morning Britain fans were left disgusted after the ITV breakfast show dedicated a whole segment to a toilet debate.
During the program, hosts Ed Balls and Kate Garraway posed the question to their guests and viewers about whether they would answer a work call while using the restroom.
Although Ed found the action distasteful, Kate viewed it positively, considering it a useful expenditure of time instead.
Despite fans labeling the entire discussion as “disgusting” and “unfortunate,” they expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter, voicing their negative opinions.
In the Best News Programme category at the recent National Reality Television Awards last week, Good Morning Britain emerged victorious, outranking programs such as BBC Breakfast, BBC News at Ten, Channel 4 News, and a few others.
Viewers were curious about how they earned the accolade, seeing as it was being discussed whether they handled work calls while using the restroom, as they had claimed to have won the award for the best news program.
‘Who were they up against, the Teletubbies, Peppa Pig and Jackanory?’
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase those statements like this: “People often suggest that I should find more engaging topics for discussion”; and “According to many, if you’re spending over a few minutes in the restroom, it might be a sign that you could benefit from increasing your fiber intake.”
“Picture a scenario where your workload is minimal, leaving you discussing trivial matters such as this on live television.”
As someone who has spent countless hours in various bathrooms over the years, I can’t help but express my dismay at the length of time some people take while using them. It seems like some individuals have forgotten that there are others waiting to use the facilities as well. It’s not just inconvenient; it’s downright rude. When you’re on a work call in the bathroom, it sends a message that your time is more valuable than everyone else’s, and I find that disrespectful. Let’s all be mindful of others and make an effort to keep our bathroom breaks brief and respectful.
‘Just when you thought #ITV and #gmb couldn’t stoop any lower, its gonna be talking toilets.
‘It should hold the govt to account, but the obnoxious Ed Balls interviews his equally dreadful and ineffectual wife, the morning after the worst demonstration of dissatisfaction of the UK’.
Someone quipped humorously, ‘They’re arguing about whether it’s ethical to attend a virtual meeting from the bathroom, and here I am in the bathroom myself. What a fine morning!’
Christine Lampard’s thoughts were sought during the discussion, as the hosts reached out to her for commentary before the broadcast of Lorraine.
Additionally, Christine found it fine to answer a phone call while on the toilet, humorously commenting, “I might answer the phone on the toilet, but I certainly wouldn’t swim and urinate at the same time.”
Previously, GMB viewers expressed displeasure for the second time this week, criticizing the program as “extremely embarrassing” following a perceived conflict of interests during Ed’s interview with his wife, Yvette Cooper, on Monday’s episode.
As a devoted follower, I had the privilege of joining Ed in an interview with Home Secretary Yvette, who graced our screen once again on Good Morning Britain after taking a break due to her father’s health issues.
On a morning talk show, Yvette shared her thoughts about whether the police effectively addressed the widespread unrest across the country during the riots.
In the program previously, Zarah Sultana raised the question about the government not categorizing the riots as Islamophobic. Later on, Ed and Kate asked Yvette for her thoughts on this topic.
Yvette started by saying, “The actions we witnessed in certain urban areas during the weekend were essentially lawlessness and brutality, which can be described as criminal violence and thuggery. It’s essential to recognize this for what it is initially, and that’s why it requires a strong response from the legal system.”

Was it right for Ed Balls to interview his wife on GMB?
Tell us what you think!
She added: ‘We have certainly seen some targetted attacks on mosques, and that clearly reflects Islamophobia.’
Many GMB viewers expressed disapproval, focusing more on the perceived inappropriate placement of Ed rather than the details of the interview, on the platform that was once known as Twitter (X).
‘Does it occur to GMB that it appears quite strange to keep inviting Ed Balls as a presenter when he’s defending the actions of his wife, the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper?’
1. The Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was questioned as to why the government has not employed the phrase “Islamophobic” thus far. Eventually, in her response, she utilized the term herself. Regarding the scenario of a husband interviewing his wife on Good Morning Britain, the program seems to question its feasibility.
‘Ed, who showed disrespect towards Zara Sultana by dismissing her idea that mainstream media contributes to stirring up hate, is planning to interview his own wife, raising clear conflicts of interest that even a child viewer might notice. Instead, let’s focus on Kerry Katona and Strictly Come Dancing.’
It’s notable that Ed Balls lets his wife speak uninterrupted during interviews, but he interrupts other guests about every 5 minutes. #gmb #GoodMorningBritain
It seems questionable if Ed Balls will interview his wife on Good Morning Britain. This could potentially raise concerns about impartiality and a significant conflict of interest, given how intimate their relationship is. Additionally, it’s puzzling that he hasn’t discussed her job or the circumstances surrounding it with the Home Secretary. Surely, this is an unusual situation? (sic)
Is it truly fitting for Ed Balls to be leading news broadcasts about the administration’s reaction to the demonstrations, given his wife’s involvement in the same government?
Goodness gracious me! That idea is simply preposterous! Having Ed Balls interview his own wife on a program? It’s just mind-boggling! I can hardly contain my disbelief, Yvette Cooper must have had an excellent reason to agree to such a strange decision. I’ve worked in broadcasting for years and I’ve never heard of anything like this before. I find it hard to fathom how they came up with this idea!
