Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser teases Taylor Swift joke… but another major celebrity drama is off the table
As a lifelong fan of musical theater and all things Wicked, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as I prepare to watch the Golden Globes this Sunday. Having grown up singing along to “Defying Gravity” and “For Good,” I find myself reminiscing about my own experiences with the beloved musical and how it has resonated with me throughout the years.
The story of Elphaba, the misunderstood green girl, and Glinda, the seemingly perfect princess, is a tale that speaks to the complexity of friendship and the power of standing up for what you believe in. It’s a message that I think we could all use a reminder of these days, especially as we navigate our own relationships and strive to make a positive impact on the world around us.
I’m particularly curious to see how the Wicked cast will be honored at this year’s ceremony, and I can only imagine the emotions that they must feel as they reflect on their time spent bringing these iconic characters to life on stage. It’s a testament to the power of storytelling and the magic of live theater that these roles have touched so many lives, including my own.
In closing, I’d like to leave you with a little joke to lighten the mood: What did Glinda say when she saw Elphaba’s green skin? “Oh look, a leprechaun!” (I know, I know…it’s a classic!)
I can’t wait to tune in and see who takes home the gold this Sunday!
Nikki Glaser is dropping subtle clues about the humor she intends to use to keep viewers entertained during her first time hosting the Golden Globe Awards.
Glaser suggested during a recent interview with Variety that there could potentially be material for his jokes involving Taylor Swift, but only if the situation were appropriate.
The well-known, 40-year-old comedian has expressed to Yahoo! Entertainment her intention to steer clear of a significant public spat involving celebrities – the ongoing legal disputes between Blake Lively, from It Ends With Us, and her director and co-star Justin Baldoni.
Glaser confirmed that the hit musical adaptation of Wicked would serve as substantial content for her Golden Globes speech, likening its success to that of Swift’s hugely popular Eras Tour.
‘It has that Eras Tour energy,’ she said of Wicked.
Yet, she was careful not to upset anyone due to the passionate followers of the long-standing Broadway musical.
Glaser expressed understanding, saying, “I aim to honor the fandom and not criticize it, since I can’t find any Taylor Swift joke acceptable as a Swiftie myself. Just like me, there are fans of ‘Wicked’ who I deeply relate to.
When directly questioned if any of her humor would make light of Taylor Swift, she replied: ‘I won’t do so unless it’s in a highly complimentary manner.’
During her conversation with Yahoo, Glaser clarified that unlike the previous Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais, she wouldn’t aim to be offensive. However, she made it clear that she wouldn’t sugarcoat things or act overly complimentary throughout the event.
Instead of reacting with crossed arms when mildly joked about, she encouraged those in the audience to simply smile and join in the laughter.
As someone who has spent years in the entertainment industry, I can confidently say that making light of past work, especially when it wasn’t your best, is a clever tactic to endear yourself to the public and boost your PR image. It shows humility, self-awareness, and a sense of humor – all qualities that are highly valued by fans and the media alike. However, it’s essential to ensure that the joke is tasteful and not hurtful or disrespectful to those involved in the project. After all, we’re all human, and everyone deserves compassion and understanding.
She said, “In your group, everyone should motivate you to find humor in jokes. Not laughing doesn’t necessarily make you more stylish. Instead, it’s about making you shine positively. Honestly, I have no intention of damaging anyone’s professional reputation.
However, the renowned comedian also emphasized that she will not be involved in Blake Lively’s sexual harassment case against Justin Baldoni or his subsequent libel claim against The New York Times over their publication of her allegations.
She mentioned that the current topic surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is so sensitive that any reference to it might give the impression of taking a controversial stance, despite her intentions being otherwise.
She continued, “I prefer not to mention his name, as I’m quite annoyed that I know it at all,” she said, apparently alluding to Baldoni, implying further discussions about him would be unnecessary.
In an accusation, Lively claims that both her director and co-star in the successful romantic drama “It Ends With Us” engaged in sexual harassment on set. Additionally, she alleges they orchestrated a public relations effort aimed at damaging her reputation in order to undermine her assertions.
In the legal action he initiated versus The Times, Baldoni aimed to challenge various points brought up in Lively’s lawsuit against him by presenting text messages, which were not mentioned in her complaint, that could potentially alter the context of certain communications between them.
According to People, the actor from Jane The Virgin, who has firmly refuted Lively’s accusations, is said to be considering filing a counter-lawsuit against the actress in response to his ongoing libel case.
As a long-time enthusiast of the enchanting world of musical theatre, I can’t help but feel a special affinity for Wicked – a tale that has left an indelible mark on my heart and soul. Having seen this masterpiece more times than I can count, it brings me immense joy to share a laugh or two about its enduring popularity. After all, when you’ve lived, loved, and breathed Wicked as I have, it becomes part of who you are – and everyone seems to know it!
In contrast to other movies like the Vatican mystery film “Conclave” and the predominantly Spanish musical crime comedy “Emilia Pérez”, this situation does not apply universally.
She stated that, surprisingly, those she’d talked about the movie “A Complete Unknown,” a Bob Dylan biopic, hadn’t heard about it, even though it stars Timothée Chalamet.
She mentioned, “‘Or Nightbitch’ is the title of a dramedy featuring Amy Adams. When people hear it, they often respond with curiosity, “What’s that?” It’s quite surprising.
Glaser acknowledged that the movies in question are unfamiliar to those at home, so he felt it necessary to provide a brief summary of the plot.
The Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast this coming Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) or 5 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) on CBS television network. If you don’t have cable, you can still stream it using the CBS app by entering your cable provider credentials. For Paramount+ subscribers who also have Showtime, you can watch it on the app this Sunday. Those without the Showtime add-on can start watching the ceremony from Monday on Paramount+.
