Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Plot Details Reveal [Spoiler] as Monsterverse Movie’s Villain

Production is underway on Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and we now know who Godzilla and Kong will be fighting in the next Monsterverse movie. The film is set to be released in theaters on March 26, 2027, three years after the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Who will be the villain in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova?

A recent update on the Writers Guild of America West website confirms that SpaceGodzilla will appear in the upcoming movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The monstrous villain is expected to be the main antagonist of the film.

SpaceGodzilla first appeared in the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. Created by Kensho Yamashita and Hiroshi Kashiwabara, the character is a mutated copy of Godzilla. After its initial film appearance, SpaceGodzilla showed up again in the 1997 TV series Godzilla Island. The new Monsterverse movie will mark SpaceGodzilla’s second major film appearance.

Grant Sputore, known for directing ‘I Am Mother,’ is directing the new monster film, ‘Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.’ The script is by Dave Callaham. The movie will star Kaitlyn Dever (‘Booksmart’), Dan Stevens (‘Downton Abbey,’ ‘Legion’), Jack O’Connell (‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’), Delroy Lindo (‘Sinners’), Matthew Modine (‘Stranger Things’), Alycia Debnam-Carey (‘Fear the Walking Dead’), and Sam Neill (‘Jurassic Park’). Dan Stevens will return as his character, Trapper, from the previous film, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.’ The story will introduce new human characters alongside Godzilla and Kong as they battle a massive threat that could destroy the world.

The MonsterVerse franchise, launched by Legendary in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla starring Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has grown into a major series. Following the first film’s success, it continued with movies like 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the recent The New Empire. Currently, Legendary is also creating a spin-off series for Apple TV+, called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and it’s been renewed for another season.
