God of War TV Show Finds Its Live-Action Heimdall Actor

The upcoming God of War TV series has cast its Kratos and now announced the actor who will play Heimdall, another key character in the show.

Who is playing Heimdall in the live-action God of War TV show?

Max Parker, known for his role in the Netflix show Boots, will play Heimdall in the new God of War TV series. He joins Ryan Hurst, who will lead the show, and Teresa Palmer, who will play Sif, Thor’s wife.

Heimdall is described as good-looking and energetic, but feels his father doesn’t appreciate him and his family doesn’t recognize his potential. This drives him to constantly seek ways to climb the social ladder and gain more influence and power.

The new series centers on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to scatter the ashes of their beloved wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their journey, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus hopes to help his father reconnect with his humanity.

The live-action God of War series has faced several delays. First announced in 2022, the show was initially being developed with writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and Rafe Judkins as showrunner. However, in 2024, reports surfaced that all three had departed the project, as Sony and Amazon decided to pursue a different creative vision.

When the original creative team left, Ronald D. Moore took over as the lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Moore is a well-known science fiction writer, with early work on shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He later created or co-created popular series including Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.

Cory Barlog, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, and Roy Lee are still executive producers on the show. Frederick E.O. Toye, a director known for his Emmy-winning work on shows like Shogun, The Boys, and Fallout, will direct the first two episodes.

God of War is an action-adventure game for PlayStation, created by Santa Monica Studios. The series centers around Kratos, the God of War, who leaves his violent history in ancient Greece behind, seeking peace in the Norse world of Midgard.
