God of War Cast Finds Its Live-Action Freya for Prime Video TV Show

Amazon MGM Studios has added a new actor to the cast of its upcoming live-action God of War series, currently being filmed in Vancouver. The series, coming to Prime Video, is based on the popular 2005 action-adventure video game from PlayStation.

The game centers around Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to scatter the ashes of a loved one, Faye. Along the way, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a strong god, and Atreus tries to help his father reconnect with his humanity.

Who is joining the God of War TV show?

Sonya Walger, known for her roles in Lost and For All Mankind, will be joining the God of War cast as the Norse goddess Freya. Danielle Bisutti previously provided the voice for the character in the video game series.

Freya is a powerful goddess and princess from the Vanir, skilled in ancient magic. She has a complicated past – she was once married to Odin and even ruled over Asgard’s Valkyries. Though strong and wise, she carries a lot of regret. After a painful divorce and exile from both Odin and her homeland of Vanaheim, Freya has spent the last hundred years living in solitude in Midgard. She hides away in a secluded forest clearing, and the humans who live nearby whisper about her, calling her the Witch of the Woods.

Ronald D. Moore, who also serves as showrunner, wrote and is executive producing the upcoming series based on Norse mythology. Joining the previously announced cast – including Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Callum Vinson as Atreus, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Louis Cunningham as Modi, Ben Chapple as Magni, Evelyn Miller as Gna, and Island Austin as Thrud – Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye will helm the first two episodes.

Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon serve as executive producers, alongside Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis. The series is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Even before the first season airs, it’s been renewed for a second season.
