GMB’s Kate Garraway explains surprise Richard Madeley absence
As a dedicated fan of Good Morning Britain, I must say that Sean Fletcher truly shone during today’s episode! It was heartwarming to see him step up so gracefully when Richard Madeley fell ill. I remember watching him as a newsreader for many years and it was a delight to see him back on the screen, even if it was under unexpected circumstances.
Kate Garraway, the host on Good Morning Britain, clarified why Richard Madeley was missing from the recent broadcast of the program.
Today’s (August 20) ITV morning show did not feature Madeley. Instead, Garraway sat next to Sean Fletcher.
Indeed, she promptly explained that her regular co-host was under the weather, all the while expressing her praise for Sean, whom she found “excellent”.
“Well, if you thought you’d find ol’ Richard Madeley here today, it seems even he expected the same! Unfortunately, he’s under the weather this morning, but luckily for us, we’ve got the terrific Sean instead!”
Well, I’ve got to send my well-wishes out to Richard, hoping he’s doing great! Speaking of which, let me share a bit about the nail-biting rush I had this morning…
In the morning, he usually logs into his schedule at home, and as he remembered, his initial was always associated with the stories. However, this particular day, his initial appeared on almost every other story instead.
“I noticed an error, it appeared to be a typo. Upon checking the schedule for the 7 p.m. event, I saw my initial everywhere, which seemed strange. It then occurred to me that I had received seven missed calls, at which point I realized there might be something important going on.”
Kate added that it was “brilliant” to have him step up, Sean saying it was “good to be here”.
As a gamer, I’ve transitioned from the sidelines to being in the heat of the action, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to take on this new challenge!
Kate remarked: “Just as you mentioned, we truly hope Richard recovers well. Fingers crossed, he’ll be feeling much better later on today.”
Sean shared more about the encouragement he’s been given this morning, disclosing, “Many individuals have approached me today, saying, ‘You’ve got this!’ To which I replied, ‘Could you all just take a moment to relax?'”
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that, similar to my experience, Kate mentioned an instance where our editor almost missed the mark by inquiring about a tie for Sean, only five minutes before we were set to go live on air.
Sean added: “Indeed, they tied a flashy necktie on me. In other words, while we were going through the news headlines, I was switching my tie.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekday mornings on ITV.
