Gloria Estefan’s daughter‘s girlfriend was arrested on domestic violence charges after a dispute reportedly broke out over a cell phone.

Gemeny Hernandez, Emily Estefan’s partner, was arrested Tuesday and faces charges including two felonies for strong-arm robbery and one misdemeanor for battery, according to documents from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department obtained by the Daily Mail.

The report doesn’t name Estefan, but it does say that Hernandez and the person she’s accused of harming were in a relationship for about eight years and lived together.

I actually saw on their Instagram last year that they were almost at their eight-year anniversary – it’s so lovely to see them still going strong. We haven’t heard back from Gloria and Emily Estefan or Gemeny Hernandez’s representatives after reaching out to them, according to the Daily Mail.

I was shocked to read the details of the arrest. According to the official statement, the victim said Hernandez actually grabbed her phone right out of her hand and then hit her with it. It’s just awful to hear.

The woman stated that she and Hernandez fought over the phone, but she managed to grab it back and put it in her pocket.

She stated that Hernandez then reached into her pocket and forcibly took her cellphone.

During the fight, the two reportedly fell to the floor while continuing to struggle over the cellphone.

She managed to grab the cellphone back and hid it under her body.

Once Hernandez had stepped away from her, she called 911 for help.

According to a sworn statement first published by TMZ, the person Hernandez is accused of harming suffered minor injuries, including a bruise near her left eye and scratches on the right side of her neck.

During a police interview, Hernandez said she didn’t take Estefan’s phone, but she did admit to being involved in the fight.

Hernandez was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, but she was released after paying a $500 bond.

Estefan and Hernandez have consistently featured each other on Instagram, and they recently appeared together on the red carpet, as recently as earlier this month, showing a united front.

Emily’s parents, Gloria, 68, and Emilio, 72, were with her in Madrid, Spain on October 7th to celebrate Gloria receiving Vanity Fair Spain’s Person of the Year award.

The couple shared a kiss on the red carpet at the recent event. They’ve been seen together at other events before, including one for the Con Cora Foundation in February, and have appeared on red carpets together several times this year.

Estefan and Hernandez haven’t put out a new episode of their podcast – which started in 2022 – since April.

In a 2022 interview with CNN, Gloria revealed that while she was supportive of her daughter coming out as gay, she hadn’t shared the news with her own mother before she passed away in 2017 at the age of 88.

Gloria explained that within the Latino community, many important issues are rarely discussed and are often considered off-limits. People are aware of these problems, but avoid openly acknowledging or addressing them.
