Glen Powell’s ’80s action remake adds Euphoria star
Glen Powell’s ’80s action remake has added Euphoria star Colman Domingo to its cast.
The movie adaptation of “The Running Man” casts Powell as Ben Richards, a participant on a survival game show where he needs to stay ahead of a group of killers to claim the money reward and help his ailing child.
In addition to Josh Brolin portraying the malevolent TV executive in the dark competition, we also have Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace, Daniel Ezra, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, and Emilia Jones joining the cast.
As reported by Deadline, Domingo – a previous Emmy recipient – is the newest member of an already stellar cast. He has agreed to join the series, taking on the role of the ominous game show host.
Currently, Edgar Wright is taking charge of direction and penning the script alongside Michael Bacall. They’re also producing the project with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will be an executive producer for this endeavor.
The first film version drew inspiration from Stephen King’s novel sharing the same title, written under his pen name Richard Bachman. In this adaptation, Arnold Schwarzenegger took on the main character, while Richard Dawson captivated audiences as the central figure, a game show host.
In a refreshing take, the updated version of the film is inspired by the original 1987 release, but it transports the storyline to the year 2025, painting a grim picture of a dystopian America struggling with widespread violence and poverty.
Production for the film started in London as early as November 2024, and photos of Powell filming at the scene were taken. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.
Earlier on, Powell expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming remake of the movie, commending Wright’s imaginative approach.
In conversation about the remake, Powell revealed his excitement and applauded Wright’s inventive perspective.
In a conversation with IndieWire, he expressed that the universe created by Edgar in this project is simply astonishing. He went on to say, “It’s exceptional. Frankly, we’re both such ardent admirers of Stephen King’s book [the film adapts], and it promises to be a remarkable character.
The Running Man is slated to be released on November 7, 2025.
