“Can’t wait for the rest of y’all to see what we’ve been shooting…. Much more coming soon!”

In “Hot Fuzz” and “Baby Driver” filmmaker Edgar Wright is directing a remake where Powell assumes the character of Ben Richards, a part originally portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in previous versions.

Following the plotline of Stephen King’s 1982 novel titled “The Running Man,” the story centers around Richard, who competes in a lethal reality television game show by eluding a squad of assassins.

I’m excited to be teaming up with Powell in this game! Other big names joining us are Josh Brolin, Karl Glusman, Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, and Emilia Jones. Can’t wait to play alongside these incredible actors!

Together with Michael Bacall, Wright contributed to writing the movie’s script. The planned release date is November 21.

Previously discussing Wright’s screenplay, Powell shared with IndieWire: “The universe that Edgar has created for this project is absolutely mind-blowing.

Speaking enthusiastically, I can’t help but express my excitement: “It’s fantastic! To be honest, we’re both massive fans of the Stephen King novel this film is adapted from, and I can sense that it’s going to breathe life into an incredible character. I’m absolutely thrilled about it!

It’s absolutely thrilling to collaborate with Edgar at this moment! Over the past few years, he has not only become my esteemed colleague but also a cherished friend. The excitement of working alongside him and sharing the trenches is truly heartening.

The Running Man is slated for release on November 7, 2025.
