Despite the recent underwhelming performance of his Stephen King adaptation, The Running Man, Glen Powell is quickly moving on to a new project. He’s set to star in and produce a funny, teen-focused comedy, and the title perfectly captures the film’s wild spirit.
The new movie, titled The Fuckboat, aims to capture the spirit of popular comedies like Risky Business and Easy A. Adam Powell is producing, and Paramount Pictures is also on board, having previously collaborated with the lead actor on films like The Running Man and Top Gun: Maverick.
It’s unclear whether the movie will stick with its current title, be renamed to something like Fkboat, or get a completely different title later on. Whatever it’s about, the film is certainly intriguing. The title itself makes you wonder – is it about an actual boat, or is it a playful reference to not caring what others think? I’m eager to find out more. While Powell wasn’t listed in the cast, I suspect he’ll be involved in some way.
Currently, the plot of the movie remains under wraps, though it’s been described as a unique, imaginative story similar in tone to popular teen comedies. The screenplay was penned by Caroline Glenn and Sean Doherty, who have been friends since college but hadn’t collaborated on a film project before this one.
According to the report, the script was purchased after a competitive bidding process. Powell secured it for his production company, Barnstorm, which he surprisingly launched earlier this year! He’s previously produced successful projects like Hit Man, Chad Powers, and the documentary The Blue Angels, and he’s continuing to expand his work with even more projects in development.
This year has been busy for actor Austin Powell. In March, he joined the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Matt Aldrich’s science fiction novel, The Natural Order, which is being directed by Barry Jenkins (known for Moonlight). Then, in April, news broke that he’s co-writing a comedy movie with Judd Apatow for Universal Pictures. Most recently, over the summer, it was announced that he’ll star in a firefighter drama directed by Ron Howard.
And there’s more! Powell has a couple of films coming out in 2026. He’s leading A24’s How To Make A Killing, set to release in February, and will also be in Ghostwriter, a J.J. Abrams production co-starring Jenna Ortega. When asked about his packed schedule, Powell told TopMob he has no plans to slow down, and signing on to another movie proves it.
