Glen Powell Explained The Ways He ‘Got Beat Up’ While Filming The Running Man, And It Sounds Top Gun Levels Of Intense

Glen Powell has a knack for taking on challenging roles in action-packed movies. However, his upcoming project, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man“, seems to be pushing him to his physical limits more than any other role before. The lead actor from “Hit Man” recently revealed that working on the Edgar Wright movie was incredibly demanding for his body, and it sounds like it wasn’t just an ordinary workday but a grueling experience akin to what one might encounter in “Top Gun”.

During an interview about the premiere of “Running Man,” posted on Rotten Tomatoes’ TikTok, Powell detailed the physical injuries and fights he experienced while portraying Ben Richards in the forthcoming remake of Stephen King’s iconic novel. The seasoned actor from “Anyone But You” elaborated:

In a TikTok interview about the release of “Running Man,” Powell shared stories of the injuries and fights he encountered while playing Ben Richards in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s famous novel, as seen on Rotten Tomatoes. The long-time actor from “Anyone But You” elaborated:

In this film, we definitely took some hard knocks. Going into it, I was well aware that the consequences of this movie were immense, and my character, Ben Richards, is certainly feeling the brunt of reality. The force of gravity is a factor, and the blows and gunfire are all too real.

This actor from “Hidden Figures” is fully committed to his roles. For instance, during the filming of “Top Gun: Maverick,” he underwent Tom Cruise’s rigorous boot camp and authentic fighter jet training. Translating this to “The Running Man,” you can imagine the intense action scenes involving explosions, high falls, and on-foot chaos that the movie provides. Powell further explained…

I was aware that my body would face punishment, so I did my best to strengthen it. However, we certainly received our fair share of blows.

Instead of merely “experiencing a staged explosion and collecting a paycheck,” this is about plunging off buildings, evading real fire, and leaping from swift-moving vehicles – chaos personified. And just like the star of Twister, Powell was right in the thick of it all. The actor commented:

In this film, I’ve been leaping from buildings, dodging explosions, and hurtling myself off fast-moving objects – quite the adrenaline rush! Reflecting on it now, I can’t help but wonder if we left any daring stunt out. It seems like we’ve tackled quite a range of wild action sequences.

This quote conveys the essential information: Powell’s performance in the film extends beyond acting; in many aspects, he seems to be enduring it.

The upcoming science fiction film “The Running Man” is a fresh take on Stephen King’s novel published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982. In this new adaptation, we follow the story of Ben Richards, a character compelled to participate in a lethal game show where the only reward is survival. With Edgar Wright, director of “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” at the helm, viewers can anticipate an intelligent and fashionable reimagining of the dystopian sci-fi genre. The recently unveiled teaser trailer suggests that this remake will offer a unique spin on the original 1987 film starring Schwarzenegger, which remains a fun classic in my opinion.

The Texas-native Hollywood star might have taken on a particularly grueling role for his profession, given that he previously flew Navy aircraft. With the constant high-impact stunts, authentic action sequences, and the intense dedication shown by the actor in Everybody Wants Some!!, it’s clear that The Running Man is promising to be extraordinary. If Glen Powell claims it was tough on him, I trust his word. To be honest, I can hardly wait to see every exhilarating moment of it.

Although the stars of the 2025 movie have been through a lot, given Wright’s previous work, there will likely be some humor alongside the action. However, if you’re familiar with the extremely grim ending of Stephen King’s “The Running Man,” which the ’80s film didn’t cover, you might feel ambivalent about seeing it on screen. Initially, I was hesitant, but upon reconsideration, I now hope they will opt for that dark ending in this remake.

brace yourselves for an action-filled and genuinely thrilling time ahead, everyone! The movie “The Running Man” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 7, 2025!
