Glen Powell details ‘gruesome’ dating fail that resulted in breaking his date’s nose

Glen Powell opened up about one of his most unforgettable, and painful, dating mishaps.

During Thursday’s episode of the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, actor Lamar Odom, age 36, revealed he accidentally broke a date’s nose due to an unfortunate mishap.

When I was a kid, I used to try skateboard tricks – jumping and spinning off things. I wasn’t very good at it, kind of like a clumsy version of parkour. Apparently, my date was watching when I tried one of these tricks, and I accidentally spun into her, hitting her in the face with my elbow and breaking her nose, as Powell explained.

The actor, recalling the event from when he was a teenager, described the accident as horrifying. He said his date was losing a lot of blood and her face swelled up rapidly.

Looking back, Powell said the incident set the tone for his romantic life at the time.

He joked that that moment pretty much defined his love life for a long time after that.

When host Shane wondered if the date could be saved, Powell quickly made a self-deprecating joke.

The actor, known for Top Gun: Maverick, expressed his disappointment, saying, “There’s just nothing to do now. You really messed things up.” He added that someone was trying to downplay the situation, but it was clearly a failure.

Although his relationship with Gigi Paris ended in 2023, actor Glenn Powell had previously been romantically connected to several well-known women, such as actress Nina Dobrev and TV personality Renee Bargh.

During the interview, Powell shared a story about an awkward experience he had in Hollywood with a celebrity who had recently faced public backlash and been ostracized.

Let me tell you, as someone who’s been around the block a few times, you never quite know what to expect at these industry parties! I was really surprised when a particular actor – someone I genuinely admired – came up to me. I honestly wasn’t prepared for it, it really caught me off guard!

I went to a party and ran into someone who was facing public backlash and possible cancellation,” Powell, 36, explained. “It was a typical Hollywood event with lots of cameras and press around.

At first, he recalled initially feeling excited to meet the A-lister.

I was really excited to meet him because he’d directed some of my favorite films. When he introduced himself, I was completely starstruck and told him how much I admired his work.

But the mood shifted when a photographer asked them to pose together. 

Powell said they used to enjoy this person’s work, but disapproved of their recent actions, which led to public backlash. They were initially trying to be polite, but when the person asked for a photo, Powell immediately felt uncomfortable and questioned whether it was a good idea.

According to Powell, the actor ‘clearly clocked’ his hesitation.

He described the man as having a deeply unpleasant and off-putting presence. He explained that people reacted strongly and negatively to him, sensing he was a poor decision or a bad influence.

Powell related the situation to his character, Russ Holliday, from the show *Chad Powers*. In the show, Holliday faces cancellation and has to go undercover to play for a different team.

Russ Holliday simply made an error in judgment, and he’s not a malicious person. He also expressed a controversial opinion about others who face public backlash, suggesting they should accept the consequences of their actions instead of trying to deflect blame.

Although Powell didn’t reveal the celebrity’s identity, fans are already trying to figure out who it is online.

Several actors are being considered, including Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Chris Pratt, Ezra Miller, Will Smith, and Russell Brand.

The Top Gun: Maverick star has yet to respond to the speculation.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Powell’s representatives, but have not heard back.
