Glen Powell details awkward run-in with ‘toxic’ canceled star as fans scramble to guess their identity

Glen Powell is sharing a story about an awkward experience he had in Hollywood with a celebrity who had recently faced public backlash, and people are quickly trying to guess who it was.

During Wednesday’s episode of the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, the actor from ‘Anyone But You’ shared that he was surprised when a fellow actor – someone he used to admire – spoke to him at a party.

I was at one of those big Hollywood parties recently, you know, the ones with all the cameras and press everywhere. And it was a little awkward because someone who’d been facing a lot of public backlash – almost ‘canceled’ – was there too. It was definitely a strange atmosphere.

At first, he recalled initially feeling excited to meet the A-lister.

I was so excited to meet him – he’s directed some of my all-time favorite films! When he introduced himself, I was completely starstruck and told him how much I admired his work.

But the mood shifted when a photographer asked them to pose together.

Powell said they used to enjoy this person’s work, but disapproved of their recent actions, which led to public criticism. They were initially trying to be polite, but when the person asked for a photo, Powell quickly changed their mind, feeling uncomfortable with the situation.

According to Powell, the actor ‘clearly clocked’ his hesitation.

Honestly, it hit me hard when he described this person’s face as just…toxic. He explained that when this person goes out, people genuinely react badly – they seem to instinctively *know* they’ve made a mistake by associating with them. It’s like a gut feeling everyone shares, and it’s really powerful to witness.

Powell related the situation to his character Russ Holliday from the show *Chad Powers*. In the show, Holliday faces cancellation and has to pretend to be someone else to continue playing football.

Russ Holliday simply made an error in judgment, and isn’t a malicious person. He also expressed a harsh opinion about others facing criticism, suggesting they deserve even worse treatment than they’re receiving.

Although Powell didn’t reveal the celebrity’s identity, fans are already trying to guess who it is online.

Several actors are being considered, including Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Chris Pratt, Ezra Miller, Will Smith, and Russell Brand.

The Top Gun: Maverick star has yet to respond to the speculation.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Powell’s representatives, but have not heard back, at this time.

He appeared on the podcast a day after being Jimmy Kimmel’s first guest back from a week-long break. Kimmel had been off the air after facing criticism for his comments about the response to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

During a conversation, Powell shared that he had a previous connection to a popular late-night show in Hollywood before he became well-known.

As someone who’s seen a lot of dreamers chase their goals, let me tell you, it takes guts! I remember moving to Los Angeles back in 2008 – I was a Texas boy with big aspirations but not a lot else. I was determined to become an actor, and I really had to hustle to make it happen.

Powell shared that Jimmy Kimmel and his producer, Diane Kelson, helped him out when he was struggling financially by allowing him access to the show’s green room, which was stocked with snacks, at a time when he couldn’t afford to buy his own groceries.

The actor joked that when he’s short on cash for food or drinks, he can always rely on the free snacks provided at The Jimmy Kimmel Show. He’s gone on to star in big action movies like ‘The Running Man,’ ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ and ‘Twisters’.

Kimmel playfully asked if, when recounting the story, the other person could mention that he had, in a sense, saved their life.

Actor Glen Powell, known for his roles in movies like *Hidden Figures*, *Everybody Wants Some!!*, and *The Dark Knight Rises*, appeared on ABC to talk about his upcoming series, *Chad Powers*, which premieres on September 30th.

I’m so excited about this new show! It’s coming to Hulu, which is part of Disney, and it stars Powell as Russ Holliday, a football player trying to get his career back on track. I can’t wait to see what he does with the role!

After a serious error cost him his spot in college, Holliday is attempting to revive his aspirations by pretending to be someone else – a character named Chad Powers, according to show producers.

The main character is a uniquely gifted but eccentric player who joins the struggling South Georgia Catfish team, hoping to revive his former football success.
