As a cinephile and avid follower of Hollywood news, I’ve been keeping tabs on Glen Powell‘s impressive career trajectory. From his breakout role in “Top Gun: Maverick” to his recent double-booking schedule, it’s clear that this young actor is making a name for himself in the industry.
After making a big splash in “Top Gun: Maverick” with his debut performance, Glen Powell hasn’t slowed down. In fact, he’s been keeping such a full calendar that he now finds himself scheduling two engagements at once.
The actor has been dividing his time between filming and puppy training as of late, according to an interview he gave to Entertainment Weekly which came out on Monday.
Last year on the filming location of “Twisters” in Enid, Oklahoma, Powell made the decision to bring home his new canine companion, Brisket. As he sat in a local coffee shop, an unexpected feeling overcame him: “I can’t quite put it into words, but I suddenly felt this strong urge to become a father.”
As a movie buff, I chanced upon a photo of Brisket on Instagram that instantly captured my heart. Feeling compelled to act, I decided to take a break from my filming schedule and booked a flight to LA without hesitation. My mission was clear: to bring the adorable pup home with me.
“Lee Isaac Chung, the ‘Twisters’ director, questioned, ‘Aren’t you certain about getting a puppy at this moment?’ But he went ahead and got one, and everyone grew fond of the dog.”
Powell, a new father, mentioned that he and his baby Brisket kept each other awake at night in Oklahoma due to crate training, causing the pup to whine persistently. However, Brisky was well-behaved during daytime hours.
“During production, Brisket would socialize with each department head and often took my seat for a nap. He turned into an unofficial mascot for the film.”
Sets can feel quite isolating at times, but the presence of a loving dog, like Brisket, can bring everyone together even more. He is an exceptional addition to “Twisters” and my favorite part of the production.
Brisket has since attended the L.A. premiere of “Twisters” and graced the covers of GQ and EW.
After being named a father, Powell revealed to IndieWire on Tuesday that his upcoming projects include finishing college and filming “The Running Man.” Directed by Edgar Wright, this dystopian action film is a modern adaptation of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, derived from Stephen King’s novel with the same title.
Powell spent a year studying at the University of Texas in Austin before relocating to Los Angeles in 2008, following the advice of his agent. Come autumn, he intends to join classes remotely from the London production of “The Running Man,” making occasional trips back to Texas to take exams on campus.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May, Powell expressed that this matter holds significant emotional value for both his mother and himself. Furthermore, he added with excitement, “I’m so near, I can almost taste it.”
“UT Austin is thrilled about the return of @glenpowell to our campus! We’re eagerly counting down the days.”
