Glastonbury headliner Rod Stewart’s bizarre pre-show ritual revealed as he’s set to take the stage at iconic festival
Rod Stewart shares an unusual routine he follows before taking the stage for the Legend’s Slot at Glastonbury on Sunday.
The well-known performer has revealed to his followers that before taking the stage, he usually swishes some rum and Coke, but he never consumes it at any other moment.
The 80-year-old British rocker started the tradition 40 years ago and has continued ever since.
In an interview with Radio Times, the artist casually mentioned that he doesn’t have extravagant demands for his backstage setup. He explained, “All I really need is a few bottles of wine and some crisps, and that’s it. I find all these additional things to be quite unnecessary!
Astounded by the abundance of food prepped in his dressing room before performances, the musician exclaimed, “What on earth am I going to do with all this? There’s no hummus here, but mountains of bananas and apples! And yet, the world is facing hunger. I feel compelled to address this issue.

Rod last performed at Glastonbury over 20 years ago in 2002 when he headlined for the festival.
This year, he will perform at the Legends set on Sunday, June 29th at 7 PM. The performance can be viewed on iPlayer starting from 7:15 PM.
The 90-minute playlist is under wraps, but it’s rumored that classic songs like Maggie May, Sailing, and Downtrain Train will be included.
Sir Rod and his spouse, Penny Lancaster, are lodging at an expensive hotel in Bath that costs £1000 per night, and they’re accompanied by the band as well.
However, among his offspring, Alastair (age 19) and Ruby were part of the group who chose camping passes following their independent purchase, due to Glastonbury Festival’s policy against complimentary tickets.
Instead, it appears that they won’t be spending the night in their tents, with reports indicating that the children will be accommodated at the luxurious Pop-Up Hotel. This high-end hotel is said to cost a substantial £30,000 for the entire duration of the festival.
Despite much excitement, it seemed like the rock star’s performance might not take place, as Sir Rod informed The Sun before the festival that he contemplated canceling due to falling ill with the flu.
Last week, he mentioned that he was seriously considering canceling his plans. He shared that it was a very close call, as he had recently battled Influenza A, which left him feeling quite unwell.
Three notable figures, rumored to be Mick Hucknall, Lulu, and Ronnie Wood, are said to make guest appearances this coming Sunday.

After it emerged that Glastonbury refused to grant Rod an additional 15 minutes on stage for his highly anticipated Legends spot, they still declined, despite the financial loss of approximately £180,000 he incurred performing there.
The 80-year-old said: ‘It’s difficult because they only gave me an hour-and-a-quarter slot.
‘So I begged them, “Can I do another 15 minutes? Because usually I play for two hours.”
In my role as a lifestyle connoisseur, let me express this in an engaging manner: “As I prepare for my upcoming show, I find myself facing a delightful challenge – there are numerous beloved tunes out there that won’t fit within the scope of this program. And to make things even more exciting, I have three esteemed guests joining me!
The musician who sings “Maggie May,” has announced that his Faces bandmate and Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Wood, is set to join us.
At present, Sir Rod holds a residency in Las Vegas, where he’s already delivered an impressive 217 performances. However, due to the request from the organizers of Glastonbury Festival, he is forgoing certain shows at a substantial cost.
He mentioned to Radio Times that approximately eight months earlier, he had been approached for the task. However, it didn’t align with his schedule as he needed to return everyone from America first.
Considering the expense of shipping along with the equipment and setup, the father of seven remarked: ‘This project will set me back approximately £300,000, but I’ll only earn around £130,000 from it.’
‘So, it’s going to cost me.’

However, Sir Rod emphasized that it wasn’t important and clarified that he wasn’t being frugal for the benefit of his team. He explicitly stated that his dancers and musicians would be traveling in Premium Economy class from Las Vegas to the United Kingdom.
He added: ‘We’ve got a little orchestra coming on to play with us and we may have some bagpipes.
I’ve dressed up the entire band in fitting attire. Each member is donned with a white jacket and a black tie, while the ladies sport sequined outfits.
‘It’s a bit more Las Vegas than it’s been before because obviously, I’m doing my residency.’
