Gladiators bosses super-size cast for second series after hugely-successful reboot was the biggest entertainment launch in seven years
As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the return of Gladiators is nothing short of spectacular! Having grown up in the 90s, watching this show was a staple of my childhood and it brings me immense joy to see it back on our screens. The success of the reboot has proven that some things never go out of style – especially when it comes to good old-fashioned entertainment!
The leaders of the Gladiators have disclosed that they’ve expanded their team for the upcoming second season, following the reboot’s massive popularity.
In January, the much-anticipated comeback of the classic 90s game show attracted a staggering viewership of 10 million people for its debut episode, marking the largest entertainment launch in seven years.
In honor of the occasion, the heads at the BBC have decided to include two additional Gladiators to their team, now boasting a strong total of 18 members.
The recently added gladiators, Sabre, Legend, Diamond, Phantom, and Strictly star Fire (Montell Douglas), will team up with the founding members Athena, Bionic, Giant, Dynamite, Comet, Viper, Electro, Apollo, and Steel.
Since Nitro (Harry Aikines-Aryeetey) is unable to play due to a knee injury, he will be taking up the role of a presenter alongside Bradley and Barney Walsh on the sidelines instead.
According to a source, The Sun was informed that the new cast member has been confirmed as a means to enhance the upcoming series, set to be aired in the coming year.
The recently added Gladiators began shooting during the summer, yet those attending the Sheffield Arena were bound by a vow of silence about it.
‘Everyone is excited to introduce the two newbies to viewers in the New Year.’
The BBC’s Saturday night primetime debut was a hit, drawing an impressive audience of 9.8 million viewers for the premiere episode, as indicated by the 28-day viewership data.
A substantial portion of the audience made this entertainment program the most victorious debut on BBC in the past seven years, as an average of 8.3 million viewers tuned in throughout its eleven episodes.
The fact that it’s successful implies that Gladiators will likely come back for a new season around 2025, featuring at least one special edition where celebrities compete alongside regular participants.
Dan Baldwin, Executive Producer and head of Hungry Bear Media, shared on Radio 4 that we have plans for a unique show featuring celebrities. (Dan Baldwin, diretor executivo e proprietário da Hungry Bear Media, disse em rádio 4 que temos planos para um programa especial com celebridades.)
“You often watch programs that have been taken off the air. You’re constantly thinking of innovative strategies to revive a series.
He added: ‘It’s no exaggeration to say that the response to Gladiators has been phenomenal. The episodes have been packed with nail-biting drama, thrilling action and huge emotion.
In Series 2, the program is set to grow even stronger! We’ve got some fantastic surprises prepared for our audience. Are you all geared up?!!
Kalpna Patel-Knight, the Chief of Entertainment at the BBC, expressed that Gladiators started the year off with quite a boom, and they’re overjoyed to see such a huge turnout of fans for the program.
It’s delightful to learn that families have enjoyed watching this show together on BBC’s Saturday night lineup. We’re eagerly anticipating even more thrilling moments from the Gladiators!
“It’s amazing to witness the renewed enthusiasm that Gladiators has consistently provided every Saturday night in the UK.
We’re thrilled that a second season has been approved for both BBC One and BBC iPlayer! We can hardly contain our excitement as we prepare to return to the stage, working alongside our colleagues at Hungry Bear Media and the BBC once more.
It was anticipated that a second season of Gladiators would likely occur due to its impressive ratings in January, surpassing those of programs like Dancing on Ice and The Masked Singer.
Initially airing on ITV from 1992 to 2000, the well-known game show took a break and then reappeared for just one season on Sky One in 2008.
Previously, news circulated about potential discussions for Gemma Atkinson featuring on a special celebrity edition of the program.
32 years after its initial debut on ITV, and 16 years following a previous revival on Sky One, the demanding game-show was brought back to life by the broadcasting behemoth in January.
Following its success, it was verified that a celebrity edition of the show was in development.
According to a source, Gemma learned about an upcoming celebrity special and expressed interest to her representative about potentially participating.
As a child, Gladiators was Gemma’s favorite television series, and given her current passion for fitness, working on it has become her dream job. The production team is currently in discussions, delighted that she shows such enthusiasm.
The popular series “Gladiators” will make a comeback on the BBC, this time featuring celebrities, following the successful revival of the show.
