Gilmore Girls Creator’s New Show Étoile Scores 88% on Rotten Tomatoes

Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls, has a successful new show on Rotten Tomatoes. Known for her six Emmy awards, Sherman-Palladino started her career in television writing and producing shows like Roseanne, Love and Marriage, and Veronica’s Closet. She later created the dramedy Gilmore Girls, which aired from 2000 to 2007 on The WB (later The CW), and starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as a mother-daughter duo living in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. The cast included other rising stars like Melissa McCarthy, Jared Padalecki, and Milo Ventimiglia.

Beyond her work on 153 episodes of Gilmore Girls, Sherman-Palladino has continued to make a mark in television by producing several other series. After the show ended in 2007, she launched shows such as The Return of Jezebel James and Bunheads, both of which had brief runs. However, her most successful creation is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a popular Amazon Prime Video comedy that ran for five seasons and brought House of Cards’ breakout star, Rachel Brosnahan, into the limelight. She will soon be seen as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman reboot.

Étoile Has Earned A Solid Rotten Tomatoes Score

Critics Have Overwhelmingly Supported The New Series

Amazon’s “Étoile” is receiving positive reviews from critics. The series, co-created by Amy Sherman-Palladino alongside her husband and regular collaborator Daniel Palladino, explores the dance world by focusing on two struggling ballet companies in New York City and Paris. They exchange dancers as a means to revitalize their troupes. The show boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Luke Kirby (from “The Deuce”), Lou de Laâge (from “Respire”), Gideon Glick (“Maestro”), David Alvarez (of the 2021 “West Side Story” adaptation), Ivan du Pontavice (“Children of the Night”), David Haig (“Florence Foster Jenkins”), and twice César Award winner Charlotte Gainsbourg (“Antichrist”).

The television series “Étoile” now has enough ratings on Rotten Tomatoes to provide an official Tomatometer score. At this point in time, the show boasts a robust 88% rating, based on evaluations from eight separate critics. Keep in mind that as more reviews come in, the score could potentially change.

I haven’t forgotten to include one particular review yet – it’s ScreenRant’s Rebecca VanAcker’s take on the show. Much like many others, she awarded the series a strong 7 out of 10 points. Here’s a snippet from her glowing Étoile review:

(Or, in a more conversational tone)
I still haven’t added one review to our collection, and that’s ScreenRant’s Rebecca VanAcker’s evaluation of the show. She gave it a 7 out of 10, similar to many other reviews we’ve seen so far. Here’s a sneak peek at her Étoile review:

If you appreciate the Palladinos’ previous works, like myself, you might find Étoile quite appealing. The cast includes actors from Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and it shares many characteristics with their prior productions. They are renowned for creating strong, bold, and humorous female characters who command attention, and Étole certainly fits this mold. Cheyenne (played by Lou de Laâge), in particular, is a lively spark and entertaining to watch. However, she also has depth and carries both pain and passion within her character, which elevates her performance significantly and makes her one of the standout characters in the series.

What This Means For Étoile

It Hits The Exact Middle

A Year in the Life (87%), Gilmore Girls (averaging 87% across three seasons), and Jezebel James (13%, her only Rotten score). Since Bunheads has a higher rating but shares a similar ballet theme and was only broadcast for one season, this might not bode well for the long-term success of Étoile.

Étoile debuts on Prime Video on April 24.
