Gilmore Girls Creators’ New Ballet Show Canceled After Two Seasons

Amazon’s Prime Video has been making headlines due to some high-profile cancellations. One such show is “The Wheel of Time,” an expansive fantasy series based on the novels by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. Regrettably, the third installment saw a drop in viewership, which unfortunately led to the cancellation of “The Wheel of Time” after its third season. Despite executive approval and a dedicated global fanbase, it wasn’t enough to secure a fourth season for this popular drama series.

It’s evident that Prime Video, beyond action series such as “Reacher” and superhero tales like “The Boys,” has encountered difficulties with less loud genres, contributing to a more diverse TV library. This issue is underscored by the streamer’s recent cancellation, which caught many off guard.

Étoile Is Done At Prime Video

The Show Debuted Not Long Ago

The show titled “Étoile” made its debut on Prime Video in late April, brought to you by the creators of “Gilmore Girls”, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. This series focuses on prestigious ballet companies, with a star-studded cast that includes Luke Kirby, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou de Laâge, Gideon Glick, David Alvarez, Ivan du Pontavice, and Taïs Vinolo, along with some familiar faces from “Gilmore Girls” like Yanic Truesdale and Kelly Bishop. The eight-part drama-comedy received mostly positive reviews and an Emmy campaign is now being pursued for the show.

It has been confirmed that despite initially receiving a two-season order, the series Étoile has been canceled on Prime Video. It appears that there were contingencies set up to potentially retract a multi-season order due to the show’s performance. In the case of the ballet dramedy, it was reportedly because the show did not generate sufficient viewership relative to its production costs.
