Gillian Taylforth, 69, reveals the secrets to her ageless looks as she puts on a very glamorous display for stunning Prima cover shoot

Gillian Taylforth shares the mystery behind her timeless appearance, showcasing her radiance during a captivating photo session for a renowned publication’s cover.

69-year-old EastEnders actor graced the cover of Prima magazine, showcasing various elegant ensembles and sharing insights about her skincare and beauty routines in an engaging interview.

She shared that she prioritizes personal care solely for her own wellbeing, offering a glimpse into her workout routine and her best secrets for achieving radiant skin.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share this: It’s truly heartwarming when others praise my appearance, yet I’m not seeking validation from anyone else. Instead, I strive to please only myself.

Caring for myself makes me feel great. As I grow older, I’m aware of the physical changes, but what matters most to me is preserving my looks for as much time as possible.

‘And if it all falls flat very soon, there’s not much I could do about it.’

Gillian, well-recognized for portraying Kathy Beale on a popular BBC soap opera, shared that she is exceptionally careful about skin care and maintains her fitness through a home gym setup at home.

Despite her packed schedule often preventing her from sticking to her routine strictly, Gillian has taken steps like installing a treadmill in her dressing room to ensure she stays active nonetheless.

She shared that she often fills her water bottle with various fruits, and every morning, she enjoys hot water with lemon and a detox tea bag.

I maintain a balanced diet, avoiding excessive indulgence while still treating myself occasionally. I pay close attention to my skin care routine as well. Additionally, staying physically active is something I genuinely enjoy.

At home, I possess a gym, yet my busy schedule occasionally requires me to wake up at 5 am, which doesn’t always allow for regular use.

Even though I tend to feel sluggish when I don’t engage in any activity, I’ve equipped my wardrobe with weights and a treadmill, allowing me to squeeze in a quick exercise routine whenever I need a boost of energy.

2015 saw Gillian choosing a “no-surgery facelift” as part of her preparations for turning 60, with treatment provided by Dr. Aamer Khan at the Harley Street Skincare Center.

Instead of using conventional methods, she chose a process that employs dissolving polylactic acid threads to eliminate wrinkles, priced approximately £2,000 and requiring roughly 30 minutes for completion.

The thread is used to give a tailor-made result, lifting specific parts of the face.

During the interview, the actress expressed that EastEnders is her cherished workplace and revealed her delight upon reappearing dramatically in 2015, even though her character had been assumed deceased.

EastEnders holds a special place in my heart since it’s where I truly found myself. The captivating character of Kathy has been deeply intertwined with my identity.” (gushing tone removed)

Gillian mentioned that she shares deep bonds with the cast, and affectionately disclosed that Adam Woodyatt, her screen son, refers to her as ‘mom’ in real life.

She mentioned that we share a strong connection; he’s able to notice if I slip up with my lines, and he kindly whispers them to jog my memory.

As soon as Kathy returned, our reunion was filled with tears; it felt like magic.

Gillian’s character, Kathy, has been a constant presence on the soap since its debut back in 1985, appearing from the very first episode.

In 1998, Gillian chose to depart from the role for the first time, but she briefly reprised it on various occasions until her character, Kathy, met a tragic end in a car accident overseas in 2006.

Yet, surprisingly, she was asked to rejoin for the special 30th-anniversary episodes, following a dramatic turn of events where it was revealed that she had staged her own demise – an unexpected plot development.

Gillian has consistently been an essential part of the BBC soap opera since then, and she continues to play the strong character of Kathy, which she took on more than four decades ago when she first joined the series.

The August 2025 issue of Prima is now on sale.
