Gillian Anderson has a new ‘70s-set drama on the way that you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
The story, titled “Trespasses,” is adapted from Louise Kennedy’s 2022 novel of the same name. It explores the complex relationship between a Catholic teacher and a married Protestant man amidst the tumultuous period known as The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The original book is renowned as a deeply moving, heart-wrenching love tale that you won’t want to miss this year. Author Marian Keyes has labeled it as both intense and remarkably truthful.
What to Read Next
In this rephrased version: Anderson will take on the role of Cushla’s mother, with Lola Petticrew from “Three Families” playing Cushla, and Tom Cullen from “The Gold” portraying the main character Michael.
By using simpler language and a more conversational tone, this paraphrase should be easier to understand while still conveying the same information.
In the Channel 4 series, Ailbhe Keogan is responsible for the scriptwriting, and Dawn Shadforth takes on the role of director for the show “Bad Sisters.
Kennedy serves as an executive producer alongside Anderson, Shadforth, and Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey, who were also part of “Brooklyn.” Maria Mulhall, known for producing “The Dry,” is also a producer. The production company Wildgaze Films, responsible for films like “Brooklyn” and “An Education,” is involved in the project.
Anderson expressed his admiration for Louise’s captivating book after reading it in its preliminary form. He found himself instantly attracted to the character of Gina, which was a mix of tragedy and comedy, and he gladly accepted Louise’s invitation to portray her.
Reviewing Ailbhe’s exceptional screenplays made it clear that this story would come alive on-screen. With Dawn in charge and Lola and Tom joining the team, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Trespasses production family.
Keogan shared that she is genuinely thrilled for audiences to see Cushla and Michael on-screen, stating, “Writing the script has been surprisingly effortless due to the team’s affection for Louise’s incredible book. This story has served as our guiding star in the creative process.
We are deeply appreciative for being entrusted with the opportunity to breathe life into a world that includes the memorable characters from Cushla and Michael’s Belfast. This production promises to be politically charged, visually captivating, emotionally intense, poignant, and though it may contain moments of sorrow, ultimately offers hope.
