Gillian Anderson SLAMS her ‘preposterous’ 90s pin-up shoots and admits women still struggle to talk about sex

The candid comments came as Gillian discussed her latest project, Want, a book about women’s sexual fantasies.
Drawing inspiration from Nancy Friday’s 1973 groundbreaking work, My Secret Garden, this book collects letters penned anonymously by women, sharing their most intimate and private desires.
Actress from The X-Files explores the persistent embarrassment surrounding women’s sexual desires, finding it surprising that numerous women, including herself, continue to feel self-conscious about voicing their desires, even in personal settings.
Although portraying a sex therapist in the Netflix series Sex Education, Gillian confessed that she found it challenging to pen her own fantasies for the book, demonstrating that even a famous actress like herself is not shielded from the societal expectations and pressures placed upon women.
Gillian, having been in a relationship with Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown, stated that the show’s objective is to foster unity among women, promote self-acceptance, and stimulate greater openness and comprehension, despite the persistent cultural barriers that remain.
Regarding her career, Gillian attributes her self-assured embrace of her sexuality in her 40s to playing the bold and uncompromising character, DS Stella Gibson, on The Fall.
She mentioned: “It’s only been within the past three or four years that I’ve felt confident enough to show more of who I truly am.”
Currently, at the age of 60, Gillian acknowledges that she’s stepping into a fresh phase in her existence, not just in her professional realm, but also on a personal level.
