Gillian Anderson lines up reunion for next movie role in coming-of-age drama

Gillian Anderson’s next film will bring her back on screen with Jason Isaacs, a former colleague. She’ll also be acting with Chase Infiniti, known for One Battle After Another, and Christopher Briney, who starred in The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Filming is now underway in London for the new drama, The Julia Set. The show, as reported by Deadline, features Infiniti as a gifted mathematician navigating the challenges of a demanding academic career.

Briney plays Pascal, a teaching assistant who encourages Julia to join a rigorous course designed to prepare students for the Putnam Exam, a famously difficult math competition. The film is written and directed by Niki Byrne, whose previous work includes the 2021 film, Our Home.

We don’t have many details about the story or characters yet, but we know that Anderson and Isaacs will be appearing together again. They last acted alongside each other in the 2024 film, The Salt Path.

Both actors were also in the Netflix series Sex Education. Anderson played Jean Milburn, a confident and open-minded sex therapist, while Isaacs portrayed Peter Groff, the somewhat arrogant older brother of the school’s previous principal.

Besides The Julia Set, Anderson is also working on Trespasses, a series set in 1970s Northern Ireland during The Troubles, where she’ll star with Lola Petticrew.

The show stars Anderson and Petticrew as mother and daughter. The story mainly follows Petticrew’s character as she develops a romantic relationship with a lawyer, played by Tom Cullen.

The first trailer for the movie introduces Cushla (Petticrew) and Michael (Cullen), and hints at a passionate but risky romance. Their love story is complicated by strong divisions within their community, making it increasingly dangerous.

The story follows Cushla, who realizes a connection like this will likely lead to problems, but she and the other person are powerfully attracted to each other, according to the story’s summary.

In a dangerous world of secrets and suspicion, Cushla and Michael fall passionately in love, despite the risks.

The Julia Set does not yet have a release date.
