A time jump has been officially confirmed for Ghosts season 6.
The fifth season of Ghosts concludes with a heartbreaking moment: Pete (Richie Moriarty) vanishes completely, leaving viewers wondering what happened to him until the next season. Meanwhile, Sam (Rose McIver) gets exciting news about her screenplay, Polar Opposites – Hollywood is interested, but they’re also hoping she can develop ideas for sequels, potentially turning it into a movie trilogy and a larger franchise.
Joe Port, the showrunner for Ghosts, recently told Collider that when the show returns for a Halloween special, it will jump forward in time by several months. The episode will reveal what happened to Pete after his disappearance, provide an update on Sam’s movie, and show what the other ghosts at Woodstone Manor have been doing since the end of season 5. You can find Port’s full statement below.
We often film in Canada – we shoot both ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Eternally Yours’ in Montreal. We’re planning a time jump in the story. When the show returns, we’ll start with a special hour-long Halloween episode. The episode will be set several months after the season finale, and we’ll see what everyone has been up to – including updates on Sam’s movie, the ghosts, and what’s happened to Pete. There are a lot of mysteries to unravel.
The sixth season of Ghosts will kick off with both a Halloween and a Christmas special. After that, new episodes will air weekly starting mid-season in the 2026-2027 TV season. While the show regularly does holiday specials, starting a season mid-year is rare – it only happened once before with season 3, which also didn’t premiere in the fall.
As Port mentioned, the delay is mainly due to their other show, Eternally Yours, which is also being filmed in Montreal. CBS recently greenlit the vampire comedy after 11 years of development. It’s scheduled to premiere this fall on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET, the same time slot currently occupied by Ghosts.
Similar to the show Ghosts, Eternally Yours centers on a vampire family living in Seattle today. Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards star as a vampire couple dealing with problems in their long-lasting marriage – they’ve been together for centuries! Helen J. Shen plays their daughter, and Jaren Lewison plays her human boyfriend.
In addition to consistently high ratings, Ghosts remains one of the best shows on network television. It boasts a 97% approval rating from critics and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. CBS will also be bringing back the critically praised series Matlock mid-season, which currently holds a 91% score on the Tomatometer with Kathy Bates in the lead role.
