Ghostbuster Steals Iconic Toy Story Role from Late Legend
In the fifth addition to the cherished toy story series, they haven’t abandoned the character of Combat Carl – originally modeled after G.I. Joe action figures and famously portrayed by the late Carl Weathers. Known for his battle cry, “Combat Carl never quits! Combat Carl always finds a way,” he swiftly gained a devoted following among fans.
In the upcoming film “Toy Story 5,” Combat Carl, originally voiced by an actor from “Rocky,” is now set to be given voice by a star from “Ghostbusters.” According to production reports, Ernie Hudson will step into the shoes of Combat Carl in “Toy Story 5.
As a devoted film fan, I’m excited to share that Ernie Hudson, famously known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters universe, has been making waves recently. He’s leaped into the reboot of Quantum Leap and graced the screens on BET+ with The Family Business. Interestingly, Hudson returned to his Ghostbusters character in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will continue to do so in 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The Fifth Toy Story Movie Will Be Released Next Summer
The fifth installment of Toy Story, titled Toy Story 5, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026. This franchise dates back 30 years, as the initial Toy Story movie was released way back in 1995, and it has been under the creative direction of Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer ever since.
“Docter noted that making films today is noticeably faster-paced compared to 1995. From ‘Toy Story 1’ to ‘Toy Story 4’, the visual refinement and pacing have significantly accelerated, he explained. However, Andrew Stanton, the writer and director of ‘Toy Story 5’, has effectively allowed certain moments to linger in an unconventional manner, which makes one question, ‘Is this a Toy Story movie?’. This approach, Docter believes, is crucial for keeping viewers engaged after four films, as it maintains an element of surprise.”
The Fifth Movie Was Announced in 2023
I’m thrilled to share that in February 2023, we learned about the upcoming fifth installment of Toy Story, from Disney and Pixar. Although specifics about the storyline are still under wraps, a logline for the movie hints at an exciting premise: “Toy Story 5” will see our beloved toys returning, this time facing an unprecedented challenge as they confront a brand-new menace that threatens playtime itself. I can hardly wait to see how Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the gang tackle this tech-savvy adversary!
Tim Allen: The Script is “Really Clever”
In late 2024, Tim Allen, the voice behind Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story series, mentioned during an interview that he recently completed a five-hour recording session for Buzz. He also praised the script, calling it “extremely intelligent” and expressing his enthusiasm about working on more projects. According to Allen, money isn’t the primary motivation for him; instead, he believes that the brilliant script is what prompted the production team to move forward with the project and invite him and Tom Hanks to be a part of it. He found the storyline to be particularly clever.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026. The Toy Story franchise streams on Disney+.
