Ghost Rider Will Finally Appear In an MCU Movie (And It’s Releasing Soon)

There’s talk that a new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film coming out in 2026 will feature the first-ever appearance of Ghost Rider from Marvel Comics. The character, known for his flaming skull, is a favorite among MCU fans who’ve been hoping to see him join the franchise. For years, plans for his introduction have been a secret. Now, as the Multiverse Saga nears its conclusion, it seems the time may be right for the Devil’s bounty hunter to take his place among Marvel’s greatest heroes.

A recent rumor suggests that Ghost Rider might make a brief appearance in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. Doomsday is already expected to have the largest cast ever assembled for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, featuring both established MCU actors and well-known stars from before the MCU began. Now, it seems Ghost Rider could be joining the movie to add his unique touch.

Film scoop expert Daniel Richtman reports that the movie will include several cameos from various characters, with Ghost Rider among them. He didn’t specify which iteration of Ghost Rider will be featured, or who will portray the character.

Nicolas Cage starred as Johnny Blaze in two Ghost Rider movies released in 2007 and 2011 (Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance). Later, from 2016 to 2017, Gabriel Luna played Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider in Season 4 of the ABC series Agents of SHIELD.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the 39th film released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the third movie in Phase 6 of Marvel Studios’ plans. The film boasts an impressive cast of 27 stars from throughout the Marvel multiverse, including Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom. Several hero teams will need to work together to prevent the collapse of different dimensions. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.

Which Ghost Rider Will Be in Avengers: Doomsday?

Considering the strong cast of Doomsday, particularly the actors who joined before the Marvel Cinematic Universe really took off, many fans immediately wondered if Nicolas Cage might return as Ghost Rider for this film. However, reports suggest Cage declined a chance to play the character again in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, so it’s not certain he’ll agree to appear in the next Avengers movie from the MCU.

Also being considered is Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, who quickly became popular with Marvel fans during nine episodes of Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD. He was known for his flaming skull and a 1969 Dodge Charger. However, because of the uncertain place Agents of SHIELD holds within the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Marvel might not choose to feature this version of Ghost Rider, despite the praise Luna received for his performance.

In July 2025, rumors surfaced suggesting Marvel had cast an actor as Ghost Rider for the MCU. This followed earlier reports hinting that the version of the character would be Johnny Blaze. If true, this would be the actor’s first time portraying the Spirit of Vengeance for Marvel Studios, making for an exciting introduction, and potentially leading to a long run with the character.

It’s unlikely we’ll see Ghost Rider featured in any promotional content for Doomsday, so fans probably won’t find out who’s playing him until the film actually comes out. Despite this, his appearance will be one of many exciting surprises in the movie, as Avengers 5 aims to be the next major success for the franchise.
