As a dedicated follower of Sam McClymont‘s journey, I find her story incredibly inspiring. Her decision to seek a second opinion, despite being told that the lump in her breast was not cancerous, has proven to be the difference between spending Christmas in the hospital and being at home with her boys. It goes to show that sometimes, trusting our instincts can save our lives.

Sam McClymont recently disclosed a surprising choice she made, which turned out to be lifesaving, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

38-year-old host of The Getaway and renowned country musician revealed that seeking a second medical opinion following an initial diagnosis of non-cancerous lump in her breast proved to be crucial in her health journey. She shared this with 9Now.

In essence, Sam expressed that the choice to seek another medical opinion turned out to be the key factor that spared his life. Instead of celebrating Christmas in a hospital this year, he will now be enjoying it at home with his sons – a truly delightful situation for him.

She mentioned that during the previous year, she detected an unusual lump on one of her breasts that gave her cause for concern, despite being informed by a healthcare specialist that it was not cancerous.

After seeking another professional’s viewpoint, she discovered that the condition was indeed an advanced type of breast cancer. Consequently, she initiated chemotherapy therapy.

For approximately five months, I underwent a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I’ve already had a surgical procedure called a lumpectomy, and I still continue with my immunotherapy treatment. Two more surgeries are left on my schedule.

The singer managed to endure rigorous treatment sessions thanks to the constant, steadfast backing of her loved ones – her family and friends.

Sharing about cancer can sometimes feel lonely, but knowing there’s a community ready to offer warmth and assistance makes the journey seem less daunting.

In October, Sam shared insights into how her two young boys are managing amidst her chemotherapy treatment, which she is enduring during her battle against breast cancer.

As a caring parent, I found it challenging to share my diagnosis with my young sons, Wilder, aged six, and Ari, aged five. Yet, they’ve shown remarkable understanding and support throughout this journey.

She shared with Stellar Magazine that her son, Ari, often says, “This is my mom, she doesn’t have hair on her head.

He doesn’t seem to notice anyone else similar to me right now, and I believe he might be trying to address an obvious issue head-on rather than letting it go unmentioned: “Perhaps he wants to acknowledge the elephant in the room first: ‘Yes, Mum is bald. We’ve noticed.’

She mentioned that her son and her husband, pilot Ben Poxon, assisted her in shaving her head, yet she found it difficult to feel emotional when looking at herself in the mirror because they were there with her.

Previously, she disclosed that she had been told everything was fine initially, following the discovery of a lump in her right breast last year. She entered the clinic expecting positive test results.

“What’s striking me now is that it was in October when I first learned about this, but here we are at the end of February. So, just how rapidly has this been expanding?

After more examinations, she didn’t receive any response from her doctor, so she waited for another three weeks before attending her subsequent appointment.

‘I decided to go to see the specialist anyway and see what my options were,’ she told Woman’s Day.

However, she was taken aback upon learning that she had triple-negative breast cancer, which is known as the most aggressive type.

Sam remembered, “I started crying immediately as he was explaining all the treatments to me, but I just couldn’t accept it.

Sam has temporarily reduced her workload because, at the moment, she can’t accompany her TV show, Getaway, on its travels.

Triple-negative breast cancer is considered a serious condition due to its high aggression level, causing the cancer to develop and spread more rapidly compared to other types.

Typical signs may involve the presence of breast lumps, breast or nipple tenderness, swelling, skin changes such as pitting, and nipple discharge.
