Three years ago, Gerard Butler acted in and helped create the action thriller Last Seen Alive, but most critics didn’t like it. However, the film is now gaining a new audience after becoming available on a streaming service.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie Last Seen Alive (also known as Chase) is currently a hit on Hulu. It debuted at number 7 on November 1st and quickly rose to number 2. The film follows a man whose wife disappears at a gas station, leading him on a dangerous journey where he’s forced to evade both the police and various dangerous situations, including explosions and fights.
Gerard Butler’s 2022 film, Last Seen Alive, was one of his worst-received movies, earning only a 14% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This is even lower than some of his other critically panned films, like The Ugly Truth with Katherine Heigl (14%), The Bounty Hunter with Jennifer Aniston (13%), and the 2003 sci-fi film Timeline (13%). His two lowest-rated movies are Playing for Keeps (6% approval) and the comedy Movie 43, which received just 5% positive reviews.
Despite initially performing poorly in theaters, the movie Last Seen Alive has found a surprising amount of success online. After becoming Netflix’s most-watched film in the U.S. four months after its 2022 release, it’s now gaining even more traction with its availability on Hulu, reaching new viewers and climbing the charts again.
While critics haven’t been kind to Last Seen Alive, calling it a typical thriller, viewers have had a more varied response – some actually liked Gerard Butler’s performance and the action. On Rotten Tomatoes, audiences gave it a 47% rating based on over 500 reviews. It’s not as popular as some of Butler’s bigger hits like 300, but many viewers suggest it’s not as terrible as critics are making it out to be.
Gerard Butler Lines Up More Intense Thrillers for 2026
I’m noticing a bit of a Gerard Butler resurgence lately! With audiences revisiting Last Seen Alive on Hulu, his thriller Greenland 2: Migration is heading to theaters on January 9th, 2026. Butler returns alongside Morena Baccarin (you might remember her from Firefly) to continue the story from 2020’s Greenland. This time around, the film picks up five years after a devastating comet nearly wipes out the planet, following a family as they venture out of their secure bunker in Greenland, desperately searching for a place to rebuild their lives.
Beyond his usual action and thriller roles, Gerard Butler is working on a comedy called All-Star Weekend. Written and directed by J, the film follows two truck drivers who unexpectedly win tickets to the NBA All-Star game, only to find themselves in a dangerous predicament. Butler plays a Russian character with a passion for gymnastics. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, the movie was originally scheduled to come out in 2025.
Last Seen Alive is now streaming on Hulu.
