Gerard Butler is overcome with emotional as he reveals How To Train Your Dragon film is dedicated to his ‘amazing’ late mother Margaret

On Thursday, Gerard Butler found himself deeply moved as he honorably commemorated his deceased mother, Margaret, during an appearance on Magic Radio.

55-year-old Scottish actor and film producer is set to appear as Stoick The Vast in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon, hitting theaters this coming Friday.

Additionally, it was shared that Dean DeBlois, the director of the film, affectionately dedicated it to Margaret, who regrettably didn’t live to witness the completed work as she had passed away prior to its completion.

This year, unfortunately, Gerard’s mom died at the age of 81, several months prior to the release of the movie.

Dean graciously dedicated the movie to her, as I felt she wouldn’t be able to attend and was quite eager for her to see it.

If Stoick had a mother, I’d have claimed her as mine without a doubt. She was a woman of extraordinary strength, fiery spirit, and unmatched grace – qualities that made her breathtakingly beautiful.

‘I wish the whole world could have met my Mum because she was a really special woman’.

He added: ‘She knew since I was a kid I wanted to be an actor.

This film, surprisingly, wasn’t resonating with me. Instead, it represented activities I hadn’t been passionate about, things I hadn’t cared much for. They didn’t reflect my individuality in the slightest, and honestly, I felt like there was more to me than what was portrayed. Remarkably, she understood this aspect of me.

Regularly, Gerard would journey away from his abode in Hollywood, to pay a visit to his mom who resided in the quaint village of Comrie in Perthshire – a place she had dwelled for over two decades.

Previously, he had informed The Record that he would always make a point to revisit Scotland to see her again. Jokingly, he added that she would never let him forget his Scottish roots, perhaps playfully reminding him of any potential star-struck behavior.

He shared, “I often find myself seated in the garden, gazing up at the majestic mountain ranges. The stunning beauty never fails to leave me awestruck, reminding me of the wonderful land I hail from.

Upon my return, I truly resonate, finding solace and rejuvenation. It’s as if I clear away all the superficial noise from my mind – that Hollywood chatter, if you will.

‘I quickly get that slapped out of me.’

Last month at the Brazilian debut of “How To Train Your Dragon”, the film honored its mother during the credits following the show.

It read: ‘Dedicated to the loving memory of Margaret Coll.’

Later on Instagram, Gerard shared photos from the premiere, incorporating a tribute within the post’s description.

He penned: ‘Things are becoming odd. I made a funny expression. About the guys, you know. And as a tribute to my cherished mother, Margaret Coll.’

It’s anticipated that “How to Train Your Dragon” will soar to the peak of the box office following its premiere this coming Friday.

The action-adventure stars Mason Thames, 17, as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid.

According to Box Office Pro’s predictions, the remade film could potentially earn anywhere from $80 million to $100 million within the U.S., given its past performances.

Universal Pictures has officially revealed plans for a follow-up to the highly anticipated box office hit. Upon hearing the announced release date, Parker commented, “That seems rather quick.
