Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. steal the box office crown with the debut of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera
In a new twist, “Panther” snatched the crown from the previous champion last week, earning the number one spot at the box office in the sequel to “Den of Thieves”.
The movie titled “thriller,” which features Gerard Butler portraying an L.A. police officer pursuing O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s potential thief who intends to execute a major diamond heist in Europe, opened with a strong $15.5 million in domestic ticket sales over the weekend at the box office, as reported by Box Office Mojo, despite negative feedback from critics.
Despite critical disapproval, viewers awarded the action-adventure an impressive 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ grade on CinemaScore.
According to David A. Gross from Franchise Entertainment Research, these films are primarily intended for viewers rather than film critics.
“Gerard Butler has firmly established himself as a leading action star, and stories featuring heroes battling villains tend to resonate globally. Therefore, international business ventures involving him are likely to be successful.
In the international market, the movie’s box office earnings haven’t started yet, and unfortunately, the initial domestic release didn’t bring in enough money to meet the film’s $40 million production cost.

After being in theaters for seven weeks, the animated film continues to captivate cinema-goers, earning a weekend total of approximately $6.5 million.
Wicked: Part One was still casting its spell, landing in sixth place earning $5 million.
Due to the movie featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande becoming available for purchase and rental online, it was shown in fewer cinemas. It seems that many fans might choose to spend $29.99 to have multiple viewings of the film at home instead.
The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown landed in seventh place.
