George RR Martin’s Dark Winds Confirms Season 4 Premiere Date

The critically acclaimed Western series has been very popular on streaming platforms since its third season premiered, and a new season is coming soon.

I’m so excited to share that Dark Winds is coming back for a fourth season! It’s officially set to premiere on February 15, 2026. For those who don’t know, the show first aired in 2022 on AMC and AMC+, with Season 3 just wrapping up on March 9, 2025. What’s really great is that Season 4 will be here less than a year after that – can’t wait!

In the fourth season of this acclaimed series, Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn faces a new mystery. The season opens with Leaphorn reflecting on his career, stating he didn’t investigate a murder for the first four years after becoming a police officer.

The voiceover continued, “Now it just feels like every day. It’s hard having to hold it all.”

I’m really excited for Season 4 of Dark Winds! It’ll have eight episodes, each an hour long, dropping week by week. For those who don’t know, the show was created by Graham Roland and is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels. It’s a fantastic crime drama set in the 1970s, following Navajo Tribal Police officers as they investigate some seriously intense cases on and around their reservation. Plus, it’s got some major names behind it – George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford are executive producers, and of course, stars Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon are involved too.

Zahn McClarnon, known for his role as Lt. Joe Leaphorn, will direct an episode in the next season of Dark Winds. The show also features Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito, and Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn. A. Martinez returns as Acting Chief Gordo Sena of the Scarborough Police Department.

Season 4 introduces several new cast members: Franka Potente plays Irene Vaggan, Isabel DeRoy-Olson is Billie Tsosie, Chaske Spencer joins as Sonny, Luke Barnett appears as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, and Titus Welliver plays Dominic McNair.

Season 4 centers around the search for a missing Navajo girl. This investigation leads detectives Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito off the Navajo Nation and into the dangerous streets of 1970s Los Angeles, where they must quickly track down the girl and her captor – a dangerous killer connected to a criminal organization.

Dark Winds Was a Massive Streaming Success

I stumbled upon this neo-Western thriller back in 2022, and honestly, it was a real find – a bit of a hidden gem! It didn’t get a ton of buzz at first, but thankfully, AMC started putting some of its shows on Netflix a few months after they aired. That really helped more people discover it, and I’m so glad it’s getting the audience it deserves.

Season 3 concluded on April 27th and was available to stream on both Netflix and AMC throughout the summer. It gained significant attention, particularly after its initial release earlier this month.

Dark Winds returns on Feb. 15, 2026, on AMC and AMC+.
