George R.R. Martin reveals release date and new pic from In The Lost Lands, based on his short story
As a lifelong fantasy enthusiast who’s seen his fair share of high-fantasy productions, I must say that the upcoming movie adaptation of George R.R. Martin‘s “In The Lost Lands” has piqued my interest. Having closely followed Martin’s work since the inception of Game of Thrones, it’s exciting to see a lesser-known story from his early days getting the silver screen treatment.
George R.R. Martin, famed author of “A Song of Ice and Fire” and creator of the hit TV series “Game of Thrones,” continues to be in high demand. Stories he wrote long ago, such as “In The Lost Lands” initially published in the 1982 anthology “Amazons II”, are now being made into films. This tale is a fantasy centered around a sorceress named Gray Alys, who can fulfill her clients’ desires – if they’re prepared to meet her expensive terms. As the story begins, it warns: “You can purchase anything you could ever want from Gray Alys. However, it might be wiser not to.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming movie, where Milla Jovovich brings Grey Alys to life and Dave Bautista takes on the role of the hunter Boyce. Accompanying Alys through the ominous Lost Lands. Just recently, Martin shared a fresh sneak peek from the film on his blog!

It seems like an enchanting fairy-tale film! Martin shared the premiere details too: “In The Lost Lands ” is set to hit cinemas on February 28, 2025. Hardly feels far away!
The primary reason I believe “The Lost Lands” is being produced at all is largely due to George R.R. Martin’s reputation as a renowned creator following the colossal success of “Game of Thrones.” Additionally, director Paul W.S. Anderson, recognized for his work on the 1995 “Mortal Kombat” film and the “Resident Evil” series, which starred Milla Jovovich, his wife, may have played a role. Anderson is known for creating entertaining films that yield reasonable profits, although they are often considered somewhat cheesy. His ability to produce such movies economically, or what can be considered cost-effective in Hollywood, likely alleviated the producers’ concerns that “The Lost Lands” wasn’t tied to a mega-franchise, which seems to be a necessity these days.
Then again, who knows where In The Lost Lands could lead? “A long time ago, I had hoped to write a series of stories about Gray Alys and those bold enough to buy from her… but life and other stories intervened, and somehow I never got around to writing that second tale,” Martin writes. “If the film does well enough, maybe I will finally write that sequel. In my copious spare time.”
It might be wiser not to jump the gun. To me, the film seems quite entertaining. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing more details closer to its premiere.
