The estate of George Michael has expressed their pleasure that the singer’s song, Father Figure, is included on Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
Before the album comes out on Friday, it’s been announced that Taylor, 35, has a song called Father Figure. This title is also the name of a 1987 song by George Michael, and Taylor’s song also includes a portion of the melody from that original track.
According to a statement from George’s estate posted on Instagram, George – who passed away in 2016 – would have completely supported having his song featured in Taylor’s music. They stated that he fully backed the inclusion.
They shared that they were thrilled when Taylor Swift and her team contacted them earlier in the year. Taylor wanted to include a segment of George Michael’s iconic song ‘Father Figure’ in a new song of the same name, which will be on her upcoming album.
As soon as I heard the track, I knew this collaboration between two incredible artists was something special – I didn’t hesitate for a moment to support it. And honestly, I just *know* George would have felt exactly the same way. It truly feels like a perfect pairing, and I’m so excited to be a part of it. I’m a long-time fan of both, and this just feels right.
George Michael Entertainment extends its best wishes to Taylor for success with The Life Of A Showgirl and Father Figure.

The song was also co-written by Max Martin, a well-known pop producer and frequent collaborator with Taylor Swift. She subtly hinted at their work together on the new album by creating a playlist featuring all of their past collaborations.
George, who passed away at 58 years old on Christmas Day in 2016, wasn’t the only musical legend to influence the Shake It Off singer.
Taylor Swift had previously given credit to Right Said Fred for their inclusion on her song Look What You Made Me Do, referring to it as an ‘interpolation’ of their work.
The song’s credits show that three members of Right Said Fred – Richard Fairbrass, Fred Fairbrass, and Rob Manzoli – contributed to the writing, in addition to Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff.
Following the song’s release, the band Right Said Fred, known for their hit “I’m Too Sexy”, posted on Twitter: ‘Thank you Taylor Swift, what a marvelous reinvention!’
The song’s impressive 1.3 billion streams worldwide have earned the duo a significant amount of money in royalties.
The estate of George Michael is also expected to benefit financially from the collaboration with Taylor Swift. Experts believe the upcoming album will be her most profitable yet, building on the success of her hugely popular Eras Tour, which concluded in December of last year.
R&B ballad Father Figure featured on George’s debut studio album Faith in 1987.

It hinted at his experience as a gay man who hadn’t publicly come out, navigating a music industry and society that were prejudiced against LGBTQ+ people.
Journalist Barry Walters noted that the album showed Michael as a mature and thoughtful artist, as well as a talented singer-songwriter. He highlighted Michael’s ability to blend suggestive themes with sincere expressions of love and commitment.
As a huge fan, I wasn’t surprised to read in the Daily Mail that Taylor was already working on new music so soon after releasing The Tortured Poets Department! Apparently, it was only about two months after the album came out that she started writing again – which just proves how incredibly dedicated and creative she is. It’s amazing to think about everything she’s accomplishing, especially during her record-breaking Eras Tour last year!
Recently, someone close to the situation shared that ‘Taylor is doing really well, but she knew she couldn’t completely avoid addressing the ongoing issues.’
They shared that the new album contains Easter eggs hinting at how she dealt with the issues surrounding Blake [Lively]. It also subtly responds to those who thought her romance with Travis was just for publicity.
The source revealed the new music is ‘completely influenced by Travis’ and that his support has been instrumental in helping her move past difficult times in her life.
The Life of a Showgirl will be available on streaming platforms at 12am on October 3.

Just last month, Taylor Swift revealed she’s hosting a special event where her movie will be shown in cinemas. It will be playing at over 540 AMC theaters starting this weekend.
The premiere event for Swift’s movie is predicted to earn between $30 and $50 million, according to Deadline. Remarkably, tickets sold in advance totaled $15 million within just 24 hours of the event being announced.
Ticket prices sit at $12 – which was decided by the award-winning performer herself.
The limited theatrical showing will last approximately 89 minutes and feature the first look at the music video for the song The Fate Of Ophelia. More details are available here.
Swift also took the time to discuss the songs featured on the album, and shared that lyric videos will be released alongside them.
Last month, Swift announced on Instagram, ‘I’m excited to invite you to a dazzling party! Come celebrate the cinema release of ‘A Showgirl’ – it’s in theaters from Oct 3 – Oct 5 only!’
