George Lowe, voice actor known and beloved for his irreverent Space Ghost, dies at 67
George Lowe, renowned voice actor from the enduringly popular animated shows “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, passed away at the age of 67, as confirmed by his representative on Tuesday.
The family will soon provide an update, their representative noted. However, no specific reason for his demise was disclosed; yet, radio host “Marvelous Marvin” Boone shared on social media on Tuesday that Lowe passed away following a prolonged illness.
He expressed deep sadness on Facebook, stating that his longtime friend and brother from Zobania, George Lowe, had passed away following a prolonged illness. It feels like a piece of me has perished as well. Known for his exceptional artistic talents and voice acting skills, he was an undeniable genius with a heart full of warmth. He was hysterically funny, and I’ve borrowed jokes from him for years – though he took some of mine too! He voiced Space Ghost and many other iconic roles.
Casper Kelly, the creator-manager-film maker responsible for Adult Swim’s “Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell,” recalled Lowe on X, expressing, “He was an exceptionally kind, amusing individual. A master improviser. Art connoisseur. Storyteller. Space Ghost was ingenious and played a significant role in pioneering a fresh wave of quirky television.

Previously, the building that housed Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank featured an art studio accessible via a stairwell. Now, this artistic space has been archived digitally, allowing everyone a chance to view it online.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to echo Billy West’s sentiments shared on X: Phil Lowe was an extraordinary voice-over artist, one of the finest in our field. His spirit was warm and generous, his kindness unmatched, and his humor simply contagious. We will deeply miss him.
Tim Frasier, an executive producer at iHeartRadio’s Premiere Networks, shared these words on Facebook: ‘George Lowe was not just one of the funniest people I’ve met, but also one of the kindest souls I’ve encountered. His absence will be felt deeply. Rest in peace.’

Deeply saddened to discover that my long-term radio partner George Lowe (Official) has sadly passed away,” radio host and voice artist Roy Hersey expressed on Facebook. “Among the most imaginative and hilarious individuals I’ve encountered. We collaborated at Power 99 in Atlanta before he took over as the voice of #spaceghostcoasttocoast on Cartoon Network. … I dropped by his home in Lakeland, Florida just recently. I’m grateful for having had that last visit with him. If there is a heaven, he’s surely keeping everyone entertained.

Michael Cole, once a prominent member of the iconic ‘The Mod Squad’ cast on late-1960s television, has passed away at the age of 84.
Lowe, who hails from Dunedin, Florida (born on November 10, 1957), had a career in radio initially, but transitioned to voice acting during the 1990s. Beyond his work in media, he was recognized as an artist and art enthusiast; the American Visionary Art Museum attests to this by stating that over time, he accumulated hundreds of pieces – among them, Pop Art prints from artists such as Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and others.
Originating in the 1960s as a stern space combatant on CBS, thanks to Hanna-Barbera Productions, Space Ghost transformed in the 1990s from a dedicated fighter of cosmic supervillains into an unconventional talk show host. This transformation was seen on a program that blended animation and live action.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast” was marketed as the pioneering late-night talk show starring an animated superhero as its presenter. From 1994 to 1999, and sporadically until 2012, it hosted a variety of real-life guests such as Björk, Adam Carolla, Conan O’Brien, Bob Costas, and Michael Stipe from R.E.M., among others. These guests were filmed live and then incorporated into the animated series.
During the first episode, diet expert Susan Powter, comedian Kevin Meaney, and the Bee Gees appeared as Space Ghost’s guests, joined by his television band, which was headed by longtime adversaries Moltar and Zorak.

Title Translation: ‘Common Side Effects’ – A Semi-Humorous Conspiracy Thriller with Heart, Surrounding a Mushroom of Miraculous Healing Power
This title conveys the same meaning while providing a more natural and easy-to-read language for the audience, emphasizing the unique blend of humor, mystery, and emotional depth within the story. The focus remains on the central element – a magical mushroom with healing properties, while also hinting at the thrilling and suspenseful elements of the plot.
Lowe replaced Gary Owens, the announcer from “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In,” as the voice of Space Ghost in the 1960s and 1980s. Owens, who passed away in 2015, made a guest appearance as a replicant named “Gary” in a Season 5 episode of “Coast to Coast.” In this episode, Lowe’s Space Ghost eliminated Owens’ replicant.
In 1994, Mike Lazzo, a former Cartoon Network executive, mentioned that Space Ghost was coming back at a time when characters like the X-Men and Batman were extremely popular. He added that this hero working alongside his previous foes, combined with the absurd, zany twist, made it appealing for both children and their parents.
In various Adult Swim series like “Robot Chicken,” “The Brak Show,” and “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” Lowe has lent his voice, and in 2024, he voiced Space Ghost for the “Space Con” episode of “Jellystone!” This talented voice actor has spent recent years engaging with fans at comic conventions and similar events.
According to its website, artworks by Lowe are displayed at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Georgia Museum in Athens, GA, the Polk Museum in Lakeland, Florida, and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.
