George Clooney’s Jay Kelly Drops New Trailer & Poster

Three years following his film White Noise, Noah Baumbach has a new movie coming out. Netflix recently unveiled the official trailer for a poignant comedy featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

George Clooney plays the lead role in the film, portraying a well-known actor who goes on a personal journey, dealing with events from his past and present. He’s joined by his loyal manager, Ron, played by Adam Sandler. The movie’s description says, “Jay Kelly is a touching and funny story, both grand in scope and deeply personal, exploring life’s triumphs and disappointments.” This upcoming film is Noah Baumbach’s fourth collaboration with Netflix, following The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017), Marriage Story (2019), and White Noise (2022). You can watch the official Jay Kelly trailer here.

The trailer explores the main character’s history as a famous actor, but reveals that Jay is currently feeling isolated. He confesses he wasn’t present for much of his daughter’s childhood, and expresses a desire to leave the film industry for a more normal life.

Jay Kelly marks the first time that Clooney and Sandler have appeared together onscreen in a movie.

But this isn’t the first time I’ve seen either of these guys team up with Baumbach. I remember Clooney actually did the voice for the main character in Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox – Baumbach co-wrote that one, which is pretty cool. And Sandler? He was fantastic in The Meyerowitz Stories, as I recall.

Back in August, while hyping up his performance in Jay Kelly as proof that he is “a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor.” Clooney continued, “I kept telling the cast, ‘Don’t call him Sand Man. Don’t talk to him like he’s just some goofy comedian.’ He’s actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor. Because of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that. He’s not just a good comedian.”

Jay Kelly Could Be an Oscars Contender for Netflix

Jay Kelly is among the many films Netflix will release in late 2025 that have the potential to receive several nominations at the next Academy Awards. It debuted at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival last month and currently holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 45 critic reviews. However, Jay Kelly isn’t the only critically acclaimed movie from Netflix that could be an Oscar contender. is also “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with an 80% score and has received more reviews than Jay Kelly.

Let me tell you, Rian Johnson has done it again! His third Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man, is currently killing it on Rotten Tomatoes with a solid 91% Certified Fresh rating. In this sequel, we see Daniel Craig reprise his role as the brilliant detective Benoit Blanc, this time heading to a quaint New England town. He teams up with Mila Kunis, playing the local police chief Geraldine Scott, and Josh O’Connor as a young priest named Jud Duplenticy, and together they tackle a mystery that really makes you question everything you believe. Much like Jay Kelly observed, both Frankenstein and Wake Up Dead Man are getting a limited run in theaters – which, as a rule, Netflix only does with films they think could be serious awards contenders.

Jay Kelly will be released in select theaters on Nov. 14, ahead of its .
