George Clooney’s crime sequel cancelled following controversial move
As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I can say that the news about Jon Watts cancelling the sequel to “Wolfs” left me feeling a tad deflated, much like when my high score was usurped by an upstart in my favorite arcade game.
George Clooney’s Wolfs sequel has been cancelled, says director Jon Watts.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about the gripping tale I recently watched, starring none other than George Clooney and Brad Pitt. These two lone wolves, who usually operate independently as fixers, were unexpectedly thrust together in this film. Initially released with a selective theater screening, it later skyrocketed to become the most-watched movie on Apple TV+’s streaming platform.
In an announcement given to Deadline, Watts stated his reason for not producing a sequel was due to his discontent with the initial plan of a broader theatrical release, which later shifted to a streaming premiere instead.
He mentioned that he displayed his completed version of “Wolves” to Apple earlier this year, and they were incredibly excited about it, promptly asking him to begin work on a follow-up.
Initially, there was a commitment for a grand theatrical launch; however, unexpectedly, they decided on a streaming debut instead, providing no prior warning or dialogue regarding this change. To my dismay, I only found out about this sudden decision less than a week before the official announcement to the public.
Expressing surprise upon learning about the sequel through a press announcement, Watts shared that he refunded the payment received for the sequel and informed Apple that he would no longer be involved in the project.
I chose not to discuss the movie as I was quite pleased with it and didn’t want to inadvertently create any unwanted negative publicity. Working with Brad, George, Amy, Austin, Poorna, and Zlatko was a delight, and if given the opportunity, I would jump at the chance to collaborate with them again.
To set the record straight, it was actually my decision to halt the continuation of the “Wolfs” series. My trust in Apple as a collaborative creative force had waned.
Digital Spy has reached out to Apple for comment.
It’s thought that an upcoming Ocean’s film is advancing well, with Clooney and Pitt preparing to team up again. Previously, Clooney mentioned that the script is “quite excellent.
Wolfs is streaming now on Apple TV+.
