George Clooney says he’s finished with playing romantic leading men in movies. After talking it over with his wife, Amal, he’s decided he won’t be doing on-screen kissing scenes anymore.
The 64-year-old actor, known for romantic comedies where he shared kisses with stars like Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones, says he’s now too old to play those kinds of roles.
He shared with Richard Eden of the Daily Mail that he’s planning to adjust to a change in his roles by following the example of Paul Newman. He explained that, like Newman, he’s decided to stop doing on-screen romantic scenes, saying, ‘Okay, I’m not kissing a girl anymore.’
George and Amal have been married since 2014 and together they have eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
I’ll never forget what he shared about getting older. He told me that when he turned sixty, he and his wife talked about it. He said he realized he could still keep up – he was playing basketball with guys in their twenties! It was his way of showing himself, and her, that age was just a number.
I’m still physically capable now, but in 25 years I’ll be 85. No matter how healthy I try to be, age is something you can’t avoid.

George was really upset when a director told him his kissing wasn’t convincing on camera, even though he’d tried to kiss like he would in real life.
The actor remembered a particularly embarrassing experience from early in his career. While filming a romantic scene with a colleague, the director scolded him for his awkward movements.
Early in his career, the actor recalled having to film a kissing scene. He said the director wasn’t happy with his approach, but he jokingly explained to The New York Times, “That’s exactly how I kiss people in real life!”
Earlier this month, George shared a personal detail about being a father to his twins, explaining that he chose to have children later in life so he could be fully present and enjoy time with them.
He discussed the challenges of finding time for family and friends while also trying to build a career, especially when you’re just starting out.
He told The Times that many people have to prioritize work over family time when they’re beginning their careers.
He continued, explaining that it was simpler for him personally because he became a father later in life, allowing him to dedicate more time to his children. He acknowledged, however, that raising a family is much more challenging when you’re younger.
Now that he’s older, more experienced, and financially stable, he can choose projects carefully. When he was starting out, he had to take whatever came his way.

He recalled getting the part in ‘Batman & Robin’ back in 1997, saying he immediately called his friends and they all excitedly celebrated. At the time, he’d only been in one studio film, so it felt like a major opportunity.
‘Of course, we did not understand then that it was going to be a terrible movie.’
Even though George is a major movie star, he recently shared that he and his family have traded the excitement of Los Angeles for a quieter life on a farm in France.
George said that now his kids are having a ‘much better life’ growing up out of the spotlight.
He told Esquire magazine: ‘I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood.
‘I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.’
Actor Jay Kelly noted a significant cultural difference between France and the US, stating that the French generally aren’t impressed by celebrity status.
He added: ‘I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.’
