Genshin Impact Version Luna III update brings a new playable character, Durin, winter events, and more on December 3

The next major update for Genshin Impact, Version Luna III – titled “Song of the Welkin Moon: Interlude – A Nocturne of the Far North” – will be released on December 3, 2025. This update expands on the story of Nod-Krai, introduces the Moon-Prayer Night festival, and features a brand new playable character named Durin, along with a variety of other events and content.

The story expands in Nod Krai with new celebrations and mysteries

I’m so excited Nasha Town is back to life after the fall of Rächer of Solnari! It’s totally transformed with the joyful vibes of Moon Prayer Night. You can wander around festival stalls, play all sorts of fun games, and even collect memories to fill up a special stamp book. But things don’t stay peaceful for long – the Hexenzirkel members show up and things start to get tense!

Alice and Nicole Reeyn have announced that the boundaries of Teyvat are becoming unstable. At the same time, mysterious phantoms are appearing in Nod Krai, and you’ll need to team up with Albedo, Durin, and the Wanderer to find out what’s causing them. Completing this Archon Quest will reward you with 500 Primogems.

Genshin Impact Version Luna III Update: New playable characters and reruns

Durin: 5-star Pyro Sword

This update introduces Durin, a powerful 5-star character who wields a Pyro sword and can fight in two different ways. Originally a dragon from Simulanka, he now has a human body created by Albedo’s alchemy, giving him a unique combination of abilities.

He excels at both area-of-effect Pyro damage, providing support to the team, and dealing massive damage to single enemies. His abilities also significantly boost Vaporize and Melt reaction damage. You can discover more about his backstory and his ties to Hexenzirkel by completing his Story Quests, which also offer exclusive rewards.

Johoda: 4-star Anemo Bow User

Johoda, a 4-star Anemo character who uses a bow, will be released alongside Durin. She supports her team by both healing and boosting damage after absorbing different Elements.

I’m so excited about the new update! First, we’re getting Durin and Jahoda, and even better, Venti is coming back – he’s always been one of my favorites! Then, later on, we’ll be able to play as Varesa and Xilonen too. It’s going to be amazing!

Transform your favorite characters into Hexerei characters to receive powerful new upgrades

This update improves several characters connected to the Hexenzirkel. Once it’s released, you’ll be able to transform characters like Durin, Venti, Klee, Albedo, Mona, Razor, Fischl, and Sucrose into Hexerei versions. Doing so unlocks new skills and Constellation effects by completing Alice’s Witch’s Homework.

Adding two Hexerei characters to your team activates the Hexerei: SecretRite effect, boosting your team’s combat abilities. As an example, if you frequently play as Venti, you’ll be able to use Windsunder Arrows while his Stormeye is active.

Winter events and creative tools round out the update

I’m so excited to head back to Dragonspine! They’re bringing back the Soulblazers’ Snowbound Journey event, and it sounds like there will be a bunch of fun winter minigames. Best of all, we can earn awesome rewards like the exclusive 4-star Rainbow Serpent’s Rain Bow weapon, plus Primogems and other goodies!

Plus, you can look forward to new story scenes and conversations with the Dameselette in Silvermoon Hall, which is located in Nod Krai. There’s even more to discover with expanded Envisage Echoes challenges, now featuring new echoes and rewards based on Klee and Albedo.

Fans of the UGC gameplay module, Miliastra Wonderland, will be excited to hear about the new Wonderland Resource Center. This feature lets you easily share and get resources using the editing tools. Version Luna III also includes extra rewards like new animations, expressions, and free gacha pulls. Plus, you can customize your Main Hall with a special winter theme!
