Genshin Impact Mualani Guide: Weapons, Artifacts, Abilities, Playstyle, and Team Comps

As a seasoned traveler and avid adventurer in the mystical world of Teyvat, I can confidently say that Mualani, the enigmatic Naga from Genshin Impact, is no ordinary aquatic creature! The first-hand experience with her abilities has left an indelible mark on my memories.

In this article, we’ll delve into all the details on how to optimize and play the newly introduced 5-star character, “Splish-Splash Wavechaser” Mualani, who debuts with version 5.0 of Genshin Impact. Let’s get started!

Genshin Impact Mualani Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst

Elemental Skill: Surfshark Wavebreaker

With her proficiency in navigating both swift currents and ocean swells, Mualani is able to ride the waves at any location. This talent grants her 60 Nightsoul points and places her into the “Nightsoul’s Blessing” state.

Nightsoul’s Blessing: Mualani

Keep using up your Nightsoul points. Once they run out or if you use the skill again, Mualani’s Nightsoul’s Blessing will expire. This condition features these characteristics:

  • Mualani mounts her Sharky Surfboard, increasing Mualani’s Movement SPD and interruption resistance. Mualani can move on water and liquid Phlogiston while this state is active, and she will take no DMG from the latter.
  • Normal Attacks will be converted to Sharky’s Bites, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Hydro DMG based on Mualani’s Max HP. Sharky’s Bites can be used in mid-air. DMG dealt this way is considered Normal Attack DMG.
  • When she makes contact with opponents in this state, Mualani applies “Marked as Prey” to them and gains 1 Wave Momentum stack. Max 3 stacks. 1 stack can be gained from the same opponent every 0.7s.

Wave Momentum and Marked as Prey

When Mualani employs Sharky’s Bite, the damage she inflicts amplifies with each Wave Momentum stack she has. Currently, she has accumulated 3 stacks; as a result, when she performs a Normal Attack, she will execute Sharky’s Surging Bite instead. This move further escalates her damage output and eliminates all her stacked effects afterwards.

Genshin Impact Mualani Guide: Weapons, Artifacts, Abilities, Playstyle, and Team Comps

Whenever Sharky’s Bites identifies an enemy as prey, that mark disappears, and she unleashes Shark Missiles towards up to 5 nearby enemies marked as prey. These missiles cause damage equivalent to this specific instance of Sharky’s Bite, while also removing their prey marks. If multiple opponents are targeted by both the Bites and the Shark Missiles, the damage dealt may decrease, with a maximum reduction of 28% when at least 3 enemies are hit simultaneously.

Elemental Burst: Boomsharka-laka

Launches a missile called Super Shark, which tracks enemies and deals Area of Effect (AoE) hydro damage aligned with Mualani’s maximum health, infused with the power of Nightsoul.

Ascension 1 Passive: Heat-Resistant Freshwater Floater

When Sharky’s Powerful Chomp connects with an enemy, it triggers a nearby Pufferfish to appear. If Mualani collects one of these Pufferfish, she recovers 20 points from her Night Soul gauge. However, only two such Pufferfish can be generated this way while under the influence of Nightsoul’s Blessing in a single instance.

Ascension 4 Passive: Natlan’s Greatest Guide

When a fellow comrade nearby sets off a Nightsoul Burst, Mualani acquires one stack of Wavechaser’s Exploits, which lasts for twenty seconds. She can have up to three stacks at a time. Each time Mualani uses Boomsharka-laka, she discards all her current stacks of Wavechaser’s Exploits and boosts the damage of this skill by 15%, 30%, or 45% of her maximum health, depending on the number of stacks she just discarded.

Night Realm’s Gift Passive

Once Mualani exhausts her NightSoul energy, she’ll start drawing on Phlogiston instead to sustain her NightSoul’s blessing.

In the region of Natlan where Phlogiston Mechanics apply, she can activate the ability Mualani: Nightsoul Transmission. If the active character is running, swimming, using Talents that enable movement, or airborne at a specific height, the following occurs when switching to Mualani: Mualani will enter the Blessing of the Nightsoul state and receive 40 Nightsoul points. The ability Nightsoul Transmission can be activated again by your team every 10 seconds.

In the realm of Natlan, Mualani experiences a 75% reduction in both her Nightsoul points expenditure and Phlogiston consumption when moving over water, as well as during her Nightsoul’s Blessing. Furthermore, her rate of Nightsoul point depletion decreases by 35% outside Natlan, regardless of whether she is on water or not.

Utility Passive: The Trick Is to Keep Smiling!

In the region of Natlan where Phlogiston Mechanics are in effect, you’ll restore 15 units of Phlogiston by interacting with certain harvestable objects. Furthermore, locations of Natlan-specific resources near you will be marked on your mini-map for convenience.

Genshin Impact Mualani Guide: Abilities explained

Elemental Skill: Surfshark Wavebreaker

Mualani navigates on her shark, identifying foes as she goes. Identifying foes adds a stack to her, and when she has accumulated three stacks, her regular attack inflicts more damage.

Elemental Burst: Boomsharka-laka

One instance of a huge DMG.

Ascension 1 Passive: Heat-Resistant Freshwater Floater

Attacking foes with her shark causes a pufferfish to appear; gathering this pufferfish extends the duration you can stay on the shark.

Ascension 4 Passive: Natlan’s Greatest Guide

Whenever other characters from the Natlan party deal elemental damage, Mualani accumulates a stack (up to a maximum of three stacks). These stacks serve to boost Mualani’s Burst Damage.

Night Realm’s Gift Passive

When her shark’s energy levels deplete, it resorts to burning Phlogiston as an alternative source. In Natlan, the rate at which Phlogiston is consumed and the shark’s energy levels both decrease significantly.

Utility Passive: The Trick Is to Keep Smiling!

Mualani can gain Phlogiston while picking up items, she can also display local specialties.
