Genshin Impact Citlali Build Guide: Kits, best Team comps, weapons and artifacts explained
Story Highlights
- Citlali is F2P friendly and has a low investment build
- Citlali is a high priestess of the Mictlan tribe in Natlan
- Citlali is a versatile Cryo support who excels in enabling Melt and Freeze reactions
As a longtime fan of Genshin Impact, I must say that Citlali has quickly become one of my favorite additions to the game. Having played many hours with various characters, I can confidently assert that her unique kit and versatility truly set her apart.
With years of experience in team-based games under my belt, it’s clear to me that Citlali is an exceptional support and sub-DPS. Her ability to reduce Pyro and Hydro resistance, while providing shields and buffs, makes her a powerhouse in Melt and Freeze team compositions.
However, as with any character, she isn’t without her quirks. For instance, I’ve found that her lack of Cryo resistance reduction means that Cryo main DPS units don’t reap the same benefits from her support compared to other elements. But hey, even the most seasoned warriors need a little humor in their lives, and I can’t help but chuckle at the irony – who would have thought that a Cryo character wouldn’t excel with Cryo?
In all seriousness, Citlali’s complex mechanics offer a fresh and rewarding play style. Her synergy with Elemental Mastery and artifact sets like Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City make her an invaluable asset when it comes to team building. While she may require a bit more thoughtful planning, her strong Cryo utility and versatility make her a valuable addition to any roster – one that I’m excited to continue leveling up on my adventures across Teyvat!
In the upcoming version 5.3 of Genshin Impact, a new character named Citlali is set to debut as a top-tier Cryo Catalyst. This character’s release will be during the first phase banner. The unique aspect of Citlali lies in managing her Nightsoul points to keep the potent effects of her summons and abilities active. Her Opal Shield offers robust protection, while Itzpapa and her Burst deliver a wide area Cryo damage.
In this breakdown, we’ll delve into the intricacies of the character Citlali, discuss her equipment, uncover her optimal artifacts and setup, and explore additional information regarding the game Genshin Impact.
For a long time, I believed Citlali would become the main character, but even after two centuries, her disinterest in venturing out remains unchanged. Perhaps a character more captivating than the ones in light novels could inspire her…

Genshin Impact Citlali Guide: Kit Explained
Citlali’s gameplay primarily revolves around her unique ability known as the Elemental Skill. This skill incorporates the Nightsoul mechanism, a distinctive trait that other Natlan characters also possess. With this mechanism, Citlali can soar through the air and simultaneously receive extra boosts to her own abilities.
Normal Attack: Shadow-Stealing Spirit Vessel | Normal and Charged Attack deals Cryo DMG while Plunging Attack deals AoE Cryo DMG |
Elemental Skill: Dawnfrost Darkstar | She summons an Opal Shield that scales with her Elemental Mastery and absorbs Cryo DMG with increased efficiency. At the same time, she calls forth “Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Itzpapa,” a creature that delivers AoE Cryo DMG. Activating this skill grants Citlali 24 Nightsoul points and places her in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, which persists while Itzpapa remains on the field. If Citlali has 50 or more Nightsoul points, Itzpapa enters the Opal Fire state, consuming Nightsoul points continuously to create a Frostfall Storm that deals with constant AoE Cryo DMG. This effect ends when her Nightsoul points are fully depleted, emphasizing the importance of careful resource management to maximize her damage potential. |
Elemental Burst: Edict of Entwined Splendor | Citlali calls upon celestial allies to summon a massive ice storm that bombards the area, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Cryo DMG. This ability also restores a set amount of Nightsoul points and spawns Spiritvessel Skulls near up to three enemies within the AoE. These skulls explode after a short time, dealing additional AoE Cryo DMG and further restoring Nightsoul points for Citlali. This Burst not only provides immense damage but also enhances her ability to maintain Nightsoul points for extended periods, allowing her to keep up the pressure in battle. |
Citlali’s Passives
Mamaloaco’s Frigid Rain | Reduces Pyro and Hydro RES of enemies affected by Frozen or Melt reactions by 20% for 12 seconds. This allows her team to capitalize on increased damage from those reactions. Additionally, Citlali regains 16 Nightsoul points whenever these reactions are triggered, with a cooldown of 8 seconds for the restoration effect. This mechanic makes her highly effective in teams that can consistently trigger Frozen or Melt, as it boosts team damage while maintaining her Nightsoul resource. |
Itzpapalotl’s Star Garments | Scales Itzpapa’s and Citlali’s Burst damage directly with her Elemental Mastery, significantly boosting her DPS potential. During her Elemental Skill, Itzpapa’s Frostfall Storm damage increases by 90% of her Elemental Mastery, while her Elemental Burst’s Ice Storm damage gets an even greater boost, scaling at 1200% of her Elemental Mastery. Furthermore, she regains 4 Nightsoul points when allies trigger Nightsoul Bursts, adding more ways to replenish her critical resource. These effects make Elemental Mastery an essential stat for Citlali, reinforcing her synergy with reaction-heavy teams and boosting her output in both sustained damage and burst windows. |
Night Realm’s Gift: Smoke, Mirrors, and the Flowing Winds | Introduces exploration and mobility mechanics tied to Natlan’s Phlogiston systems. When in areas with Phlogiston Mechanics, Citlali can perform “Nightsoul Transmission,” allowing her to leap into the air and deploy “White Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Citlalin,” floating in the sky. This enhances her mobility and vertical reach in specific regions, enabling unique interactions with the environment. While in mid-air, she can hold her Normal Attack to enter Aiming Mode, prioritizing Phlogiston over stamina consumption for Charged Attacks. |
Genshin Impact Citlali Build Guide: Constellations
In this section, we will break down the constellations for Citlali in Genshin Impact.
C1 | This constellation gives Citlali a buff called Opalstar Vestments when she uses her Elemental Skill. It provides 10 Stellar Blade stacks, which are consumed whenever your other characters deal damage. Each stack boosts their damage by a massive amount based on Citlali’s Elemental Mastery. Additionally, when Frozen or Melt reactions happen, Citlali gets more stacks, but only every 8 seconds. This makes her amazing in reaction-heavy teams since she not only deals great Cryo damage but also boosts her allies’ attacks. Plus, it helps her move better by lowering the energy (Phlogiston) she uses during her mid-air abilities. |
C2 | C2 turns Citlali into an incredible team player. It gives her a bonus of 125 Elemental Mastery and also boosts her teammates’ Elemental Mastery by 250 if they’re shielded by her Opal Shield or have Itzpapa following them. This makes reaction-based damage like Melt and Frozen much stronger for your whole team. On top of that, it improves her passive skill Mamaloaco’s Frigid Rain, further reducing enemy Pyro and Hydro resistance when reactions like Frozen or Melt are triggered. |
C3 | Elemental skill increased by 3 levels. |
C4 | C4 is where Citlali starts to shine even more. When Itzpapa’s Frostfall Storm hits enemies, it summons an extra Spiritvessel Skull. These Skulls explode and deal massive AoE Cryo damage based on Citlali’s Elemental Mastery. On top of that, each explosion restores Nightsoul points and Energy for Citlali, helping her maintain her skills for longer fights. This effect can trigger every 8 seconds, so it’s a consistent way to increase her damage and sustain her abilities. |
C5 | Elemental burst increased by 3 levels. |
C6 | C6 completely changes how Citlali’s Elemental Skill works. When you summon Itzpapa, it immediately enters its most powerful state, Opal Fire, and stays there permanently, even when Nightsoul points run out. Instead of ending, Itzpapa keeps consuming Nightsoul points, which in turn gives Citlali special Cifra of the Secret Law points. These points boost her damage and also increase the Pyro and Hydro damage of the entire team. However, when Itzpapa leaves or when you use her Elemental Skill again, the Cifra points disappear. This constellation makes Citlali incredibly powerful, turning her into a team damage booster while maximizing her personal Cryo damage. |
Regarding constellations, Citlali’s are generally average, but her C6 stands out exceptionally. Here is a ranking from best to worst: C6 > C1 > C2 > C4 > C5 > C3.
Genshin Impact Citlali Guide: Best in-slot weapon
1. The most suitable option would be [Weapon Name 1], also a 5-star weapon that complements her abilities particularly well. It too has Electromagnetic (EM) as a sub-stat and is designed for support roles.
2. The next best choice would be [Weapon Name 2], another 5-star weapon that works harmoniously with Citlali’s skills. Although it doesn’t have EM as a sub-stat, it excels in support capabilities similar to the Starcaller’s Watch.
3. If neither the Starcaller’s Watch nor [Weapon Name 2] are available, consider using [Weapon Name 3]. This 5-star weapon offers decent support features, although it may not be as optimized for Citlali as the other two options.
4. Lastly, if none of the above weapons are accessible, opt for [Weapon Name 4], a 5-star weapon that can still provide some level of support to Citlali, albeit less effectively than the other three choices.
- A Thousand Floating Dreams
For free-to-play players, the Sacrificial Fragments is their optimal choice in the slot, as it’s frequently available through the Gacha. Fortunately, since Citlali scales with EM, she has a good selection of 4-Star Weapons to choose from that are easily accessible for free players. Here are some other decent 4-star weapons for Citlali, listed in order from best to least optimal for her slot:
1. Sacrificial Fragments (Optimal)
2. Other suitable 4-star weapons (Alternatives)
- Sacrificial Fragments
- Wandering Evenstar
- Mappa Mare
- Fruit of Fulfillment
- Favonius Codex
Genshin Impact Citlali Build Guide: Artifacts to use
Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City (BiS) | 2-Pieces: When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, the equipping character regenerates 6 Elemental Energy. 4-Pieces: |
Tenacity of the Millelith | 2-Pieces: HP +20% 4-Pieces: |
Gilded Dreams | 2-Pieces: Elemental Mastery +80 4-Pieces: |
As a gamer, I’ve found that Citlali performs exceptionally well with the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City artifact set. This gear boosts my team buffing abilities and offers an Elemental Damage Bonus, making it my top pick for her overall performance. While I’m working towards acquiring this set, I can make do with temporary alternatives such as two mixed Elemental Mastery sets or a 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith in the meantime.
In the second set, Citlali reinforces her defensive barrier and enhances your team’s attack power, but she won’t gain from the HP bonus of the 2-piece advantage. Alternatively, consider the 4-piece Gilded Dreams. This configuration could provide Citlali with more than 200 Elemental Mastery.
As for her Main Stats and Sub-Stats:
- Timepiece: EM/ER
- Goblet: EM
- Circlet: EM
- Sub-stat: EM, ER, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, ATK%
Best Team Comps for Citlali in Genshin Impact
Citlali performs exceptionally well in either a ‘Melt’ or ‘Freeze’ team composition. In these groups, her skills are particularly effective at bolstering the fire or water damage-dealing characters she is paired with. Her inherent talent subtly weakens the resistance of enemies to both pyro and hydro elements, thereby enhancing their ability to inflict greater damage.
Her abilities make her exceptionally suited for teams that specialize in rapid responses such as Melt or Freeze. However, it’s important to note that Citlali doesn’t decrease Cryo resistance with her tools, so characters specialized in Cryo damage (Cryo Damage Per Second, or Cryo DPS) may not reap the same benefits from her support compared to other supporting units.
Citlali | Furina | Mavuika | Xilonen |
Citlali | Mavuika | Bennett | Xilonen |
Citlali | Neuvillette | Furina | Xilonen |
Characters using Hydro abilities can benefit from their resistance reduction too. By initially freezing enemies with Hydro abilities, your Pyro damage dealers will then be able to “Melt” the frozen foes, resulting in more frequent and potent reactions. Nevertheless, it’s important to mention that teams focused on Freeze strategies aren’t effective against bosses. In such instances, it would be better to replace the Hydro unit with a standard Melt team composition.
In addition to other roles, Citlali could be an ideal fit for teams that specialize in controlling the battlefield, particularly during situations known as Areas of Effect (AoE). Her abilities enable her to apply cold effects and serve as a defensive support, making her adaptable in these high-control scenarios.
Final Thoughts
In simpler terms, Citlali is an exceptional team member who excels in both Melt and Freeze teams as a secondary Cryo support. Her unique kit offers a variety of useful abilities such as shielding, buffing, and consistent application of Cryo effects. This makes her a valuable asset due to her versatility and impact on the battlefield. However, it’s worth noting that Citlali lacks the ability to reduce Cryo resistance, which means she might not offer as much benefit to Cryo main DPS units compared to other support characters.
Although she has some drawbacks, Citlali’s complex mechanics and potential for support create an innovative and satisfying gameplay experience. Her compatibility with Elemental Mastery and artifact sets like the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City offers excellent flexibility in team composition. While careful planning is necessary when using her, her powerful Cryo utility and versatility make her a valuable asset to any collection.
